I'm no engineer but for the life of me I don't understand how the rear can be better, lighter, cheaper, simpler (pick whichever ones are supposed to apply) than the double A-arms under the back of our Solstice.

The drag guys will have that rear thing yanked out in two seconds. Anybody know the weight compared to our 10 bolt?

Whats that gizmo on the front end that looks like its attached to the PS lines...a cooler? (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Single piston front brakes? (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) Hope there is an upgrade on the SS.

All of the SS pics I've seen have featured 4-piston Brembos.

That rear upper A-arm sure does look like are front lower(bushings setup)! I wonder if it will have the same problems.

And 4 arms per wheel. I'm trying to visualize what's going to happen to toe through the suspension travel, and also how the 4 different arms can move at the same time without binding... I can't quite get it from the pictures.

The 3rd gen has a similar PS cooler that runs under the radiator support (below the support). Looks like they are doing the same approach here.

Actually, it looks like a hybrid of the 3rd and 4th gen front suspensions. We have coils on the shocks/struts like a 4th gen, but no upper a arms (I'm assuming this is considered a MacPherson strut design), larger than 3rd gen brakes, and it looks like it has hub assemblies from the 4th gen style setup. No more vertical castor bushing, it has "real" bushings that move the right direction (think 3rd gen). The top mount does not look like a camber plate. Either you'll adjust it at the shock bolts, or move the lower bushings around (like a 4th gen). Probably slots in the Kmember.

And, I think Ford designed the rear suspension. It really reminds me of Fords "drop in" mustang rear setup from the 99-ish cars.

Interesting. So far, I'm still not interested in one, but that could change when I see it and find out the final specs...

The more I learn about the 5th gen, the less interested I become.

Did you notice the length of the front sway endlinks/balljoints and how thin they are. I bet more robust endlinks will be necessary if the sway bar diameter is upgraded.

To me the rear seems overly complicated, with two many different pivot points, and I also notice that there is a vertical bushing in one of the upper mounts, gee that's just great!

However I will reserve final judgement only because I know that GM was supposed to have benchmarked the BMW 3 series rear and the Camaro's platform is identical to the current G8, which is so far, getting great reviews vs. the 3 series. However, I won't be the first person to buy one no matter how good the reviews. Someone else can be the Guinea pig (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

By the way, the front suspension is nearly identical to my '07 'stang, and that was just a ripoff of an E36 M3. It's a good thing, though. It's simple and it works.

It looks like it has a virtual ball joint setup like on many Mercedes products and Chrysler LX/LC platforms. There's enough compliance in the bushings that it will not bind and still offer a supior ride. It's like moving the ball joint further out towards the wheel. It looks like there is some opportunities for bushings or bearings or a conversion kit to a single arm/ball joint on the rear lower.

It's hard to tell but it looks like the front strut setup might also have the virtual ball joint design. If this is the case there will be a lot of caster and wheel movement (relative to wheel well) fore-aft with steering input. A nice tuning setup when done properly for the street but will be a tuning nightmare for the track.

Actually, the front hubs look like FWD hubs like the Solstice has. Looking closely, I think I can see splines in the hole in the center. It's possible that the front and rear use the same hubs.

How the heck do those front swaybar end links not buckle? Are there extensions down and forward? Goofy front springs will give stock spring classes fits. Travel with wide rubber may limit the length of coilover springs.

Rear looks like it has more room for fat tires, and coilovers. The IRS assembly bolts on in 4 places - those places on a 4th gen are subframes... Hmmm...

?? That doesn't look anything at all like an E36 front suspension. It looks like it has forward mounted "radius rods" or whatever they're called to resist front to back motion of the wheel vs. the L shaped lower control arm an E30/E36 used:
