QUOTE (mitchntx @ Nov 3 2006, 11:55 AM) *
Last week, she breaks the news to me like this ... "Chester isn't in his cage."

"Who's Chester?"

Ah yes, like a fine, uh, cheese, it just gets better as time goes by.

Dang - I'd forgotten all about that thread. Classic.

BTW - as a followup, the mace/pepper spray stuff works on possums and bats, too. Makes 'em squirm for damn near 15 minutes!

Of course, I notice that, while Mitch lives in "Granbury", Chester still lives in "Grandbury".

I had forgotten that story. My ferret didn't live but another couple of weeks after that. I think Chester had him "whacked" for being an informant. I now have 2 ferrets...Elvis, and Jerry Lee. They're probably on Chesters payroll just like poor old Clyde.

Chester better just stay away from me if he likes his life. I wacked quite a few of his country cousins up here. Including the little bastard that was trying to make a getaway with the remains of a turkey leg last year.

I think Chester may have been reincarnated here. The cats will periodically catch a mouse in the basement, and release it in the living room so they can play with it until it reaches something light and portable like a piano, refrigerator, and so on. As a result, I've become pretty good at grabbing mice by the tip of the tail and lifting before they can turn and bite. Then I lob them out into the field.

Anyway, Chester II had already made several runs into the kitchen, only to be recaptured by the cats each time. Apparently all that running takes a lot of energy. As the mouse was running for his life, past the cats' food dish, he suddenly stopped and picked up a piece of dry cat food. He sat back on his haunches and started eating, very squirrel-like. The stunned cats just stood there watching him, confused.

He bolted again when I made a grab for his tail, but he kept the piece of food. As one of the cats was batting him around the floor, he kept dropping the food. At that point, he would run back toward the cats to retrieve it.

Several times in mid-run, the mouse stopped, turned, sat up on his haunches, and lunged at the cats.

Midnight can always go for a visit to make sure Chester (or any of his relatives) is not causing any trouble... but then again, which is worse ? Midnight or Chester ?
