Anyone with Recaro's in here ?, need some advice Options

Hi all,

Looking into chosing a race-seat that is blaack leather (or looks like black leather) so that it blends with the car.
Anyone have a Recaro Sport or even a Recaro Speed on their car... I want to see what it looks like.
I've found this for the Speed, even if not leather (black vinyl), it looks like it.
These seem to be at $650 a piece, which is much cheaper than what I can find in leather.

I haven't used the seats in my car, but while sitting in a few seats at a racing showroom I can say that the Recaro SRD (precursor to the Speed model) fit my frame a lot better than most of the Corbeau seats did... but keep in mind I've got a pretty scrawny build (~175 lbs). I plan on using these in my car.

I have the Recaro SRD's. They are a great seat, but they make you sit up a bit higher, and they are heavy, about the same weight +/- a few pounds over the stock seats, but are very comfortable compared to a fixed shell seat. Just installed a set of "Speed" 4 points in my SS tonight. First impression is ,very comfy ( not easy when you are 240#). I went with the black vinyl ( feels as much like leather as my stock SS seats did!) with red suede inserts.

going to Watkins Glen this weekend, will try to get some pics and I will let you know if any issues.

How is everyone mounting the srd/speed seats? How much higher/lower are they than the stock seats? Anyone got a link to measurements for the seats? I've been unable to find measurements online.

I just installed a drivers side Recaro Speed 5 point in black cloth and red stitching. Using the Recaro mounting bracket it fit like a glove with no issues. The sliders have tabs with 3 different mounting holes both front and rear to adjust height. I'm 6'2" with no head room issue on a non t top coupe with helmut on. It is darn close though. Over all comfort is good, but kind of tight in the hip area on the bottom cushion. That's probably more an issue with me than the seat . In conclusion I would suggest them highly. I bought mine from Pete at T.C. Kline Racing.

Thanks for the good info. This is going to sound funny: what size waists do you guys have that like the recaro speed? Now here's a another question: What do you guys do or in Eugenio's case plan to do to re-route the shoulder belt?

I'm about a 36 or 38 waist depending on what I pig out on on a certain day. I have a shoulder harness bar and 5 point harness that I will use just for autocross. I wraped the waist and sub belt around the front and rear Recaro cross braces on the mounting bracket. I move the seat up from my normal position, tighten the belts, then move the seat back which really tightens them. Believe me when I say you will not move a quarter of an inch. Keep in mind that mounting your harness this way is not the hot setup from a safety standpoint. For the street I use my stock factory belt. Without the stock guide the factory shoulder belt rides up a little high near the neck. You could I believe easily attach the factory guide to the Recaro as it seems there is a solid area to attach it to. I'm a little hesitant to do that, if for someday I want to sell the seat.

to answer some info on me:
I'm 6'2" and 180lbs... so not fat and not skinny... just OK, imho: 34-36 waist, depending on makes.
As for rerouting the shoulder belt, for me it seems to be quite simple.
I already have a convertible and they have a cut in the thing holding them for people to get in the back.
I'm thinking on unscrewing the 2 screws and screwing that piece in the new seats... hope I'm making some sense here.

I didn't want to ask til I had looked everywhere, but does anyone have the dimensions on the recaro speed? I looked everywhere, including their website, and couldn't find any info. I'd like to compare them to a Sparco-their charts were much easier to find.

I know some do have specs, such as the Recaro Sport:

I guess I'll assume it's close to the SRD-which from what you provided looks like it's sized pretty generously (almost 23" in the shoulders) for a reclinable. Hopefully I can find a recaro dealer-or maybe I can get them to send me something. Thanks!

Hope that all turns out well with the car project!

I needed some better seats and ended up going with some inexpensive knock-offs from summit. Synthetic/vinyl leather, reclining with attached rails/sliders. Check out summit PN SUM-G1155 $199 US.

The front rail mounting points happen to line up perfectly with the OEM studs. The rear will be a bitch to install because it falls on top of the floorpan frame, unless you shift the front mounting points fore or aft.

I am 6'2" 195LB and the fit is pretty good. Better than OEM camaro seats, but not as comfy as other aftermarket seats. The build quality of the seats is not shabby. I guess the quality of child labor in China has improved.

Weight is on par with the OEM motorized seat.

Knowing that the pair costs me $409 new makes them all that more comfortable.

I just got the seats yesterday and installed the drivers side last night. I will post a picture soon.

Big improvement over OEM camaro seats. I did not weigh the seat, but it felt about the same as the power drivers seat that I removed. The seat bottom is foam on top of steel wire (spings) instead of just a form. The material blends nicely with the existing "black" vinyl and plastic dash and trim pieces. It doesn't match the stock seat material (but I didnt expect it to).

I sit about .5 to 1 inch higher than with the stock seat. I always adjusted the stock seat full down in the rear and almost full up in the front.

I purchased two seats, but had to return one for a replacement because it had a minor blemish on the back. I gambled by buying these seats mail order. It payed off.

These are not as comfortable as some higher end seats that I've tested. But they were very easy on my kids college tuition funds (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
