I had an SLP 2400 stall in my '97 for about a day. Did not like the revving and slowness of shifting at all! Are these Vigilante converters noticeably different?

Mine felt that way until I reprogrammed the computer. After that... what an incredible difference!!!!

I own a vigilante 2800 and it is a great converter. Best quality converter on the market IMO. Reprogramming the shift firmness is a must after a higher stall converter install, otherwise your shifts will be pretty sloppy feeling.

I highly recommend them, they are not cheap, but you are getting a true custom built 9.5" converter with a billet front cover, not some half-assed hybrid with an OEM 11 or 12" front cover and a 9.5" back half that has been "re-stalled."

Vigilante is the only way to go IMO. Plus you get a free stall speed adjustment that is transferrable if ownership of the converter changes.

The "revving" is part of a higher stall converter. it slips more, allowing the engine to stay in its powerband sooner and longer. With that comes extra heat, so I recommend a tranny cooler. For road race and autoX types really big stall speeds are a no-no obviously. I don't even agree with the drag racers overstalling their cars.

You'll see a lot of LS1 drag racers running ridiculously high stalls like 4400, etc. trying to wring every last .01 out of the 60ft time, but more stall = more slippage = more HP lost to heat going down the track instead of contributing to acceleration. There is a diminishing pt of returns with excessively high stall speeds IMO.

Anyway, my 2800 flashes to 3200 but is nice and "tight" in regular driving.

I agree Chris. I'd rather be slightly understalled than over. Even when I do my LE heads and cam I might not re-stall mine.... (ok, maybe a little 2800 or so (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) )!! But seriously, once I re-programmed the computer, it was like night and day difference. The car came alive and felt like a totally different car.

I have drag racer guys tell me all the time to restall mine. But I like it just where it is. It actually flashed to 3200 on a launch so I really don't see the need in giving up another 15hp going down the track just for an extra .05 sec on the 60ft time.
