THAT said...YOU CAN KEEP THE BMW's OF THE WORLD...I thought they were overpriced cars before I bought them....and after owning one I NOW THINK they are overpriced and UNRELIABLE cars....

I'm amazed at how polarized the BMW buyers are - I hear either this side, or, as in my case, the complete opposite, all the time. I've never heard as much of a dramatic difference of opinion about any other marque. It's like BMW either builds stunningly perfect cars, or lemons, but nothing in between.

The people who believe BMW makes perfect cars are the same people who believe normal cars use 1 liter (slight exaggeration) of oil for every 1,000 miles. The fact of the matter is they've always owned BMW's and never thought something else would be more reliable.

We can be just as closed-minded too, but at least we have the data to prove pushrod V8's can last 300,000+ miles, right Karen (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

That's my point though. You're on the "lemon" side. I've owned BMW's for about a dozen years, and never had to pour any extra oil in them, had any major engine failures, etc. Always 3-series cars, but I've got friends that have had big trouble with those as well.

And yes, they've been more reliable than my Camaro (okay all the mods don't let me blame any of that on the general) and my 1999 Silverado.

I'm not trying to say their aren't any lemons, just noticing this vehement polarization around BMW...

You guys are all nuts. DODGE makes the only good cars anyway (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)
It is interesting that a lot of car freaks are very polarized around BMW. It must be the road racers in us and the fact that SO many cars on the track are BMW, I don't know. I do know that $ for $, a Camaro is more fun, and that's all that matters (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Yeah, for me, I had been a lifelong "hater" of BMW growing up...just didn't like the "attitude" most BMW drivers had....."look at my Bimmer...." "...my Bimmer this..." "...my Bimmer that...." all from friends and family that talked about these things like they were their Yale educated kids or something...

Then I drove one and felt "why" people are sucked into them....they ARE nice on some levels (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ...bought it and tried to avoid telling people I had one.....didn't like them saying "Oh, so THAT is how you are...." with a wink...

Then the problems struck. That and the fact the FORD gave me FAR SUPERIOR customer service from the service department on my very first car....A FORD ESCORT.....than the #1 BMW in the country....I was in shock, how do these people have such superiority complexes about their cars when the dealer treats them like SHIT....now I have been treated poorly by a LOT of dealers....but NEVER this bad....damn.....

I've seen similar polarity over Jeeps. I've had nothing but positive experiences with them. Very reliable and will go anywhere anytime. But some people say they will never own one because of all the problems they had or heard friends had. This seems to cover the whole line too, not just one model.

More on topic, it took a while for the new caddy's styling to grow on me, but I like it now. If I could ever afford one, they would be on the list of potential purchases.

The one car I don't like from Caddy right now is the CTS. In the -V trim I think it's much improved though. Sometimes it's amazing to me how just a little body work and wheel/tire changes can transform a car.

...yeah...I think the CTS-V World Challenge car is SWEET looking.....but the stocker is a little weak for my tastes.....

I have seen some STS-V "spy" photos of "cars in developement" that look much like the WC car....very nice..
