Those of you without A/C, is there a part that seals the air in, now that the condenser is gone? I guess there were some LS1's from the factory without A/C so there should be a part? Anybody know? Car was running a bit hot at Summit Point now that the A/C is gone, but it was also 100F in the shade! Need to keep making my aluminum baffle or buy a factory part before 3 days at the Glen next week.
I'm sure other's have removed the A/C on their LS1's.....where are you guys? Have you done anything? |

I don't have AC on my car. But I am confused as to what you are talking about.
Do you mean the ENTIRE system, to include the heater core? I have pulled everything except whats under the dash. I didnt do anything to it once I pulled everything out, just left it alone. But if you have pulled the heater core etc. I think you will have to make a sheet metal panel to fill the hole in the firewall. Is that what you were talking about? |

No, I am referrring to the gap along the height of the radiator where the condenser used to be, roughly a 1-3/4" x 20" gap.

ok now I know what your talking about. I havent been able to come up with anything for it yet. Though alot of consideration and ideas have been looked at nothing has really appeared like it would work.
I am going to be building a tunnel that will seal to the radiator eventually, making the car a front breather so I wont have to worry about this. |

I've got foam (roll-bar padding) on the sides and top. I've been messing around with aluminum to make something a bit better.
It still doesn't help a whole lot in the summer in TX. I need a bigger radiator. I find myself short-shifting to keep the temps down, and running the heater on full blast. |

The aluminum should help.....I didn't have these high temps last year when it was in the 90's? The oil cooler has been on all along, and that may make the difference. I'm almost done sealing it off with some welded aluminum pieces and some weather stripping. We will see how it does at Watkins Glen next week, but it will probably only be in the 80's.

I took a simple approach and just stuffed some foam into the gap on both sides. I got the foam at Home Depot for something like $10 and it's worked great ever since. Now that I have my oil cooler lines coming through the gap also it makes it even easier to seal around them instead of using an aluminum plate.
