Thanks for posting that. What's the difference between the"A" and the "R" versions?

Oh ok A=autocross, R=roadrace. Anyone know how bad it would be to use the R type for autox?

QUOTE (Cal @ Jul 14 2004, 04:09 PM) Oh ok A=autocross, R=roadrace. Anyone know how bad it would be to use the R type for autox? They're not that "bad" (haven't autocrossed on them personally but know people who have). They wear a little better than the A tires but are just a tick slower. Take a bit longer to heat up but shouldn't be an issue this time of year. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) If you're just running local autocrosses where you're after a $5 piece of wood (and not the money and fame you can attain at the national SCCA events (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) ), they are a good compromise. Hey, no problem guys. Figured sombody wouldn' mind saving a little on a new se of tires.
I have a buddy that uses a set of thr R's on his Porsche at thr local autocross. He does well with them. Like Patred said, they do take a little longer to heat up but in the summer, it doesn't matter much. Derek |

Question is.... I've heard alot of people say that the 04's last twice as long as the 03's....
So even though they are 40% off, aren't the 04's just as good a deal at full price? |

Used race tires don't seem to store well. I don't know how well new tires hold up in storage. It does help to keep them at a moderate temperature (protected from both heat AND cold) and seal them up in heavy black plastic "lawn & garden" garbage bags to keep out the air and light.
Race rubber is like very slow cure epoxy. I'm not sure whether the intial heat cycles are required to jump-start the process or if they start aging immediately. However, since these tires were probably made in 2003, they've already been stored for at least one winter (hopefully in somewhat controlled conditions). |
