QUOTE (Jeff97FST/A @ Jun 11 2004, 10:41 AM) Sent in my registration today... Unfortunately, it conflicts with the second SEDiv at the Black Lake (Michelin Proving Grounds). I wish the SEDiv series wasn't best 3 of 4. Otherwise, I would go to NEDivs. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Karen |

Well, made it to Aberdeen finally. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times....
Started the week by packing the trailer last tuesday, then worked 4pm - 1am. Got some sleep, then back to work 12pm-9pm, then work thursday 8am-5pm. At least the trailer was packed by thursday, but I hadn't packed a thing. Got my act together and packed by 10pm thursday. Worked my last shift friday morning at 8am. I was lucky and my co-workers booted me out the door by 12:30. Looking good, I should be able to make Aberdeen from Boston in time to tech and register... :drive: Nope! Made good time from Mass to Ct, hit New Haven by 3 - 3:30 then came to a crawl....From New Haven at 3:30, I finally crossed the Hudson river at 8:08pm (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) I don't think I ever let the clutch out completely for a 5 hour stretch. At one point I notice my SECURITY warning light was on. I had plenty of time to read the owners manual, and wasn't real concered. Looked like I had a fault in the Pass Key system, but since the light was solid, not flashing, the car would still be operative. Ducked a bullet... Boredom set in, and I kept Verizon in business calling friends already at the site, asking to save me a seat at the bar, I'll be there soon... ...and, of course, you can guess what all that traffic does to a bladder! I had seen a sign that read Tappan Zee bridge, 12 miles. Next sign for the Tappan Zee read, 6 miles - and that was an hour later!!!! I can't wait, pull off the road, run into the bushes....you get the picture....back in the car, turn the key, NOTHING!!!!! Seems the SECURITY light was a little more serious.... After sitting for a while and trying to figure what to do with a disabled car pulling a trailer, I try the key one more time, the car starts. Ducked a bullet... ....crossed the Hudson and into Jersey, hit third gear for the first time in hours, and I'm on my way...... Reach my hotel room in Maryland at 12:20 AM....no beers with friends tonight... Up at 6, hit the site, unpack, change tires, tech, register, walk course.....and run in the second run group, work 5th. Lack of sleep does nothing for a good autocross run! I'm pretty sure I dozed off during my third run. There is one section of course I don't remember, other than turning in about 10-15 yards before I should have, straighted out, made the turn, turned in 5-10 yards early again, got straighted, finished the run. Funny thing is, it was my fast run for the day! Went out for steamed crabs and beer for dinner, it was good to be home again (Maryland native, am I, and I finally had my beer with friends! -) and turned in for a good night sleep.... Next day ended up better, but still 1.2 sec off the lead times for FS.... All in all, ended up about 2.4 back from first for the weekend. Much better than the 8 sec. spanking I took from Paul Kozlak in 2002! Hey, showing some improvement.... I'd like to mention that, as is no surprise, the F Stock crowd was a joy to hang out with. My co-driver had wandered off, and came back because we were all still standing in impound. He thought there was a problem, protest, or something...we were just all standing talking and getting to know each other! Thanks and congratulations to Ron Bistrais, Jason Burns, Ed Lange, Steve Close, Russ Siggelkoe, (me), Tom Moore, and Heather Burns - it was a pleasure ladies and gentlemen (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |
