QUOTE (trackbird @ Aug 28 2004, 12:18 PM) Off topic, Rob, that Avatar rocks. I hadn't seen that one yet. It's been floating around a few gunboards-I first saw it at www.assaultweb.net I'm picking up 2-3 DPMS ar15 lowers on friday. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/2thumbs.gif) When the ban comes back, probably after elections, it'll be more restrictive. I don't want to limited to single shot ar15's like CA. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) We have a local company here, J&T distributing, that makes some very nice ar15 uppers and kits. Speaking of occupations I think it would be neat to be an engineer for a gun manufacturer. |

They've been rallying for it, but AFAIK it hasn't been renewed. Personally I don't think Bush wants to touch the issue. He needs all the vote he can get and doesn't want to alienate himself from gun owners.
Let's start a new thread if we're going to talk anymore about this. |

I split the post so as not to take away from the occupation thread. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif)

It wasn't much fun. In fact, any company in any industry that's been doing basically the same thing with very little technical progress for that many decades probably won't be much fun to work with/for. Any project that IS exciting will probably be killed. |

It would suck if it only expires for one day and they manage to "fix" it. I don't think anyone really wants to mess with that issue right now, so I figure we "better buy 'em quick". I can't tell if it will just die or not. I would like to think so, but that is probably not a realistic view.
I saw that Beretta has a special, buy a 92 (or 96 as I remember) and get 2 free hicap mags once the ban expires (only valid if it does expire). Hmmm. That may wind up as political "fodder" for the crowd that wants the ban reinstated. however, maybe it's time for a new Beretta. |

Well I picked up two DPMS AR15 lowers today. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif) We'll see what happens.
http://webcats.net/store/merchant.mv?Scree...Category_Code=K I'm probably going to get a couple of those in the future (16" and 20"). My buddy has a J&T that's a tack driver and will feed any kind of ammo. |

I picked them up locally for $125 which is a little high for a cast lower but it is DPMS-not Hesse or a cheapy. My friend bought the same lowers a year ago for $110 each.
You cannot get a lower reciever shipped to you since that is the part considered by the ATF to be the actual gun. It must be shipped to an FFL/dealer which adds shipping cost and a transfer fee. So it was cheaper for me to pick it up locally. After I bought them my friend told me that CMMG is selling DPMS forged lowers for only $105! If I had known that I would've had them shipped to my ffl. Putting the lowers together is really simple if anyone is wondering. 30 minutes then just slap the complete upper on and you have a new AR for $500 something compared to $700-850. www.model1sales.com also sells cheap ar15 kits but they aren't quite as good as J&T or Rock River Arms. |

Hey Rob, have you used any of the various 2 stage drop-in trigger kits for the AR yet? They are similar to the M1A style trigger in that they have a real light take-up then break clean at around 3lbs or less.
The reason I ask is because it looks like you put several ARs together and may have either tried a trigger group like that or know someone who has. I have a Knight's SR25 {.308 but it uses the same trigger group as a standard AR} and I'm thinking about buying a trigger set for it and would like to get some feedback before I buy. I've already done as much I can with the trigger group while still being reliable {unless I drill and tap for a overtravel set-screw}. I had a National Match M1A that had one of the best triggers I had in a auto. If I could duplicate the feel of it, I would mind spending a bit money on it. |

I've only put together a couple that both belong to my friend-a 9mm RRA and a .223 J&T. Both had DPMS triggers, so I've never messed with that. Might want to try ar15.com or another gun board.
