I usually hate cross posts but:
http://bb.knightrideronline.com/viewtopic.php?t=6882 QUOTE I have just found out by my friend's dad that works on the railways here that a train carring hundreds of new 2005 GTOs has crashed in Blairsburg, Iowa (just outside of Cedar Rapids). Hundreds of brand new GTOs in transit from California have been damaged or destoryed. As a part of the clean up, some of the GTOs may sold at highly discounted prices, and some are being parted out because of their damage by local citizens helping with cleanup, I will let you guys now of more information. Attached are some pictures of the accident scene. -- I have high resolution pix that I may post else where so you guys can see the extent of the damage. can opener on the side appologies if this is old info, but its news to me. |

Why couldn't the train wreck contain Malibus/trucks/take your choice of crappy GM vehicles... (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) |

I can see the dealer add on stickers being applied as I type this.....
"Limited Availability $2,000" (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/bs.gif) Probably a GM plot to keep the prices up so they don't have to discount them like they did the '04's |

However, GM knows that the insurance company for the railroad will likely pay full cost for damage. It's probably better than selling them.... |

They'll just add them to the list of excluded models - like the C6.....
The GM discount is about 10% on the GTO's - not too far from where the rebates were last year. |

Does anyone have any ideas how long the "employee pricing" is going on? Once we get into the new house I am going to be looking very seriously into one of these. Maybe I can get a discounted one with 0 miles and "some" repair work from this train. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Considering industry reports say GM is losing about $1600 per vehicle it sells on average, I'm SURE it's better for them to get in a train wreck than for them to end up in customers' hands. BTW, those numbers were before they started giving out employee discounts to everyone. :leaving:
edit - Oops. I knew something sounded funny about $1600 per vehicle. Here's a recent quote from Autotech Today: QUOTE Nissan still managed to make the most money per vehicle at $1,603, according to Harbour’s calculations. Toyota earned $1,488, while Honda got $1,250 per vehicle. Ford Motor Co. pocketed $620, and Chrysler Group earned $186 per unit. General Motors Corp. lost $2,311 per vehicle produced.
