Axoid just did a cage and harnesses in his 3rd gen. I don't know if he had tabs welded in or is using the stock mounting bolts. Maybe he'll drop in here.
Jegs sells a "clip in" kit from Simpson. It's a forged eyebolt with large washers to back it up. It's not perfect (I'd be concerned that it could be too weak for a high speed impact such as open track) I'd think it would work well in an autocross car. Are you still running ESP with SFC's on the car or did you cut them off? (Just curious). |

http://www.vilipend.com/~frrax/misc-pics/C...tart_003?full=1 I got some metric hardned bolts from a fastener place. they were 1/2" longer or so, don't' recall details. take the bolt in to match thread/size and make sure its the hardest they make (10.8 for metric?) Also had to 'massage' the driver side tab. It needed to be placed in a vice and pounded on to give it a slight bend so it would bit along the floor/side. works great. With longer bolts I was able to retain stock belts. the belts are the type with the triangular tab w/ the bolt hole. Hole had to be enlarged slightly for the bolt size. QUOTE (trackbird @ Jun 26 2005, 12:05) Are you still running ESP with SFC's on the car or did you cut them off? (Just curious). When I come up there sometime this summer I'll let you see where I cut mine off to run ESP. It's sad. I just used some 1/2" grade 8 flange cap bolts and 1/4" thk 2"x2" sqaure washers on the inside to make it long enough for the bolt to pass through the harness and stock belt. The washers go on the back side to prevent the bolt from pulling through the floor pan. I still use the stock torx bolts on the outsides since they have a meaty shoulder-I'm not sure how well a replacement would work here. I'm sort of afraid of how a conventional bolt would work there. Any thoughts? |

Are you still running ESP with SFC's on the car or did you cut them off? (Just curious). I bought two of the long Simpson bolts. I used the stock belt mounting point on the inside, replacing the stock bolt with the Simpson bolt and you need to use the nut inside the tunnel because the bolt will screw in but the Simpson bolt is a little smaller and the threads don't directly match up (I didn't use the 3" backing plate). On my car the fuel lines run right beside the factory reinforcement, had to remove a couple of screws to move the lines enough get a socket on the nut, but everything went back into place fine. On the outside belt I drilled a hole through the body and placed the 3" backing plates on both the inside and outside the body and ran through the bolt. I'm currently using bolt-in belts, but I'm planning on switching to clip-in. The shoulder harness is just wrapped around the cage's cross bar. |

Another newb question guys.
I am working on installing my 6 point harness in the car for some on track days (no wheel to wheel racing, just lapping). The car is a very stock f-bod, so I am not looking to weld or drill anything. Luckily, the Recaro seat mounts I have in the car make the anti-submarine strap easy, and I'm going to go with a harness bar (Ive read the arguements for and against, thanks ) for the shoulder straps. My question is where and how do most people mount the lap belts. The outside belt looks like it would be easy enought to put a forged eyebolt in the location of the stock belt mount, however the inside belt location is more under the seat than on the tunnel. Will a forged eye bolt fit there ? Anyone else have a creative solution that works well ? I'm hoping some of you guys who have not totally turned your cars into race cars can give me some help (car is 99% street, 1% track). Thanks ! |

In my '98 street car, I used the factory mounting points and the factory hardware. The lap belts are "piggy-backed onto the stock belts, actually.
I had to drill out the lap belt mounting bracket by 1/16" to get the shoulder to fit through the hole, though. |
