It's more of a "this is our idea" from the R/T staff, but if that's their idea, count me out. I would prefer a retro-esque 70-73 RS nose and tail, a legitimate cowl induction, and decent (Ok, much better) ergonomics. |

I would be happy with it if it had a LS2 or above engine, a decent suspension and had a good price. I did like the Challenger drawings. Dodge always had a slightly different look to them. The 69 Super Bee for example, it wasn't the prettiest car built but it did have a mean look to it that I liked. Good looking car for an intermidiate sized car.

My confidence in GM is pretty low.
The only way that they will get the new f-body correct is if they again copy the Mustang concept (ff to 2005) - tasteful retro concept and AFFORDABLE V8 in a package that isn't horribly overweight. |

(IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) It was, the new Camaro is dead. The only one that will continue is the GTO since the new Holden coupe is already under development. |

Don't get R&T, but personally I hope GM would avoid retro. It's a fad and I'm suprised it hasn't died out yet. I liked the subtlet retro influences the old mustang '99-'04 had. It looked modern yet showed the car's heritage as a mustang without looking out of place. The '05 in my opinion looks horrible. I think if we could find a balance like the old mustang we'd have a nice camaro.

Just to clarify my thinking...
I am not saying that I want to see retro styling. I am saying that this will enhance sales and keep the platform going... Remember, secretaries buying V6's Mustangs and Camaros are what kept them viable in the account sheets, not more serious enthusiats like us. |

I don't have much faith in GM either. A Camaro could be built on the current GTO platform. It isn't a question of it not being able to be done but rather GM not having a clue about a marketing strategy other than flooding the market with SUV's.

I don't have much faith in GM knowing the market either, but I still like them better Ford or Dodge.....that'll probably never change.

I'm pretty sure the GTO will die in 2006, as its follow-on 2007 model was supposed to be based on the Zeta platform, similar to the Camaro. I don't think current sales will support keeping it going, unless GM has a brain fart and decides to do what enthusiasts want vice bean-counters.
IF (a big word here, given GM's current fiscal situation) GM were to bring back the Camaro I would hope that the retro styling would be limited to strong hints, not an outright updating of a 40 year-old design as was done with the Mustang. But, go figure, the Mustang is selling like hotcakes, and GM's styling department cannot find the light switch to see what they have done in the last 2-3 years. |

Road and Track's website does not have the August info up yet, but the pictures should be there when they do.

Posted to another list was a mention that the August Motor Trend confirmed that all RWD platforms were killed, except the next gen GTO.
Don't know anymore than that, wonder what Scott Settlemire is saying over on Chirpthird.com ? |

The next GTO will again basically be a rebody of the Holden coupe. It's really amazing how a GM subsidiary can manage to do profitable RWD platforms, but GM can't.
