QUOTE (pimpmaro @ Aug 22 2005, 15:06) ..I wouldn't want to be hitting the LS1 limiter too much myself. I only tapped it once on the drag strip and I bent a pushrod. A friend of mine also bent a pushrod by hitting the rev limiter, much harder than I did... and his was bent into an S. Just curious, was that from holding it in gear too long, or misshifting into the wrong gear? The misshift will hit the rev limiter, but the engine will still over-rev because it's being mechanically driven at that point. That's the only time I've heard of ls1 pushrods getting bent before, is on a misshift or a hydrolock. |

I hit the rev limiter several times at each AX, and I've hit it once with a missed shift mechanically forcing it well past the 7000 rpm limit. Still no bent pushrods, but they are hardened, oversize pushrods. I have Katech rod bolts in the low end. |

It was a throttle overrev, not a mechanical overrev... sorry for the long wait for the answer, I'm about to go have to teach our fearless leader how to install a clutch for the second time (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Hopefully this time we don't screw it up!

QUOTE (Cal @ Aug 22 2005, 13:43) Just curious, at what rpm does the stock rev limt kick in on a stock '93 or '94 LT1? ....Also, how harsh is the LT1 rev limit? Around 5880-something IIRC. It's harsh as hell. And it won't protect you from "skipping over it" and overrevving by a couple hundred RPM briefly as you're bouncing off it. I sure as hell wouldn't want to hit it unless my wheel is straight either. |

QUOTE (robz71lm7 @ Aug 22 2005, 17:11) I have a Raptor shiftlight mounted high to my a-pillar and focused right into my eyes. I can look straight ahead and shift without being distracted. It flutters as you approach the set point and goes solid at the set point. The raptor is small, bright, and easily programmable. Unlike the Harlan it's also readily available. I don't know why people put them in the vent-I'd rather have it at eye level pointed right as me as I look ahead. I have it in the vent beacause it's not visible that way in normal conditions. The light is so bright and pointed directly towards me that I can't miss it once I reach it. Those leds are real bright. |

QUOTE (firehawkclone @ Aug 21 2005, 10:30) Thanks Keith, what rpm do you have your's set at? I was thinking 53/5400 just to keep this motor alive. Were did you hook it up at Keith? I set mine at 5,200 and occasionally drive through it to the limiter. I use it to help with gear choice on corner entry sometimes. I followed the directions that came with it an connected it into the ignition wires as the directions stated. It sits on the far left of my dash. QUOTE (firehawkclone @ Aug 21 2005, 20:49) Beside a lt1 make's no power above 5t rpm's right! Or am i wrong on this one? I have found that it's better to upshift a little lower than to ride up to the rev limiter - the car just feels like it pulls a little better. I have been to the rev limiter many times on my old LS1 and my current LT1. I don't know about harsh, but you probably don't want it to kick in mid-corner or the rear might step out (you should have upshifted before corner entry in that situation). I pickup the harlan from Mitch(thank you) so i'll have to find out how to hook it up to an lt1.
I will put it right on top of the dash in the middle of the steering wheel. This is becuase the 2 track i run are CW with more right hander's. |

My LT1's previous owner said he had set the redline to 6400 rpm. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/burnout.gif)
Being a cautious driver, I had never intentionally exceeded the stock redline. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) Being an autocrosser, I have unintentionally bounced off the rev limiter a few times. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/burnout.gif) I guess I'm getting daring in my old age, so I tested to see if it would rev past 5700 rpm. It went right to 6200 rpm, then I backed off. :drive: So the bad news is I'm mad at myself for trusting the guy would put the rev limit back downlike he had said he would. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rant.gif) He did put the cat and stock springs back on. I'm happy the car has survived several excursions past 6200 rpm.
