It was 1 am and I was driving around trying to find gas, 4 of the stations were out of gas totally, one only had premium left.
A tanker was filling up one station and there was a line of 15+ cars waiting to fill up.

I found some for around 3.09, but finding gastook a little work. A very surreal expierence.

Labor day weekend I had a similar experence. I was driving to an autocross with my wife behind me in the truck carring the tires and I stopped to top off the Camaro before the autocross. At the 4th station I finally found gas and I told my wife to fill up the truck no matter how much it costs. Paying an extra $20 for inflated prices is better then not having gas at all.

We are running out of gas here in Paris too. It is pretty crazy.

Went to my local station and they were out of 87 octane. Filled up with 89 instead. When Katrina ran through I tried to do the right thing and not fill up my tanks but I got screwed in the end and had to start buying a lot of gas at the top dollar prices. I'm trying to avoid having that happen again.

I for one will be glad when Hurricane season is over.

weirdly enough, even in Canada, the same thing is happening:
http://www.canada.com/national/story.html?...da-ea842388ccf5
Yesterday were so many lineups.
From last Hurricane, the gas price went to 147.4 / litre ~ 4.70 US$ / gallon
Now the price is rougly around 99-119 all over the country... but some stations did make it go up to 179 or even over 2$ a litre.
Remember 1 liter = 1/4 gallon.
The oil companies are indeed just taking advantage to make more $.

BTW, looks like the hurricane is shifting east... and might spare Houston.
If that is the case, the amount of dammage won't be as bad.

that sounds crazy. I've been paying attention as I drive around Austin (<200mi from houston) and I have not seen a single station that was out or had lines. We do have a huge number of people coming in though. 290 and 183 are just jammed at times. I go the backway home and so far I haven't had to deal w/ it.

that sounds crazy. I've been paying attention as I drive around Austin (<200mi from houston) and I have not seen a single station that was out or had lines. The two places near my house (just off I35) were $2.55 $2.65/gal. We do have a huge number of people coming in though. 290 and 183 are just jammed at times. At least one station in my area (southern NJ) was out of fuel this afternoon. I find this disturbing since there are refineriesin both north central NJ ans south western NJ. Perhaps they are proportioning deliveries in order to divert fuel to areas that lack a supply source (though I am more inclined to believe it's more a matter of generating a believable sense of scarcity to validate further price gouging). How many of you remember the previous two "energy crises"? Had a friend who worked for a refinery during the last one who told me that the biggest problem was finding places to store stockpiled crude and refined oil. Guess being a "child of the 60's has made me cynical. Time will tell.
