Well I had took out the G35 to its first autocross yesterday. Overall I'm pretty happy how it did. I had a solid mid-pack finish, 99th out of 198 drivers. I didn't think this was too bad considering it was my 1st time out with this car, 1st time since March that I've autocrossed, and I was on street tires. I found out what I wanted to, it is actually possible to autocross it and still have fun and not be regretting my departed Camaro. It was a lot of fun being in a class with other drivers that was extremely close in competition. Only 2.5 seconds separated 1st place DS from 14th place DS and I was in 8th.

What really amazed me was how much easier the car was to drive than my Camaro. I could set the car and drift it out on corner exit without worry of the back end coming around on me. It felt a lot more stable and predicatable. I guess the old adage is true, if you're capable of autocrossing in an f-body you're pretty much able to autocross anything else. That said my Camaro was a lot more fun, it was a lot flatter in the corners, had a lot more torque, and was just flat out fun to kick the tail end out and be able to catch it.

How far I'll go with it I don't know. The car may only be temporary until my daughter is old enough to get herself in and out of a car seat. That being the case, I don't want it to become a money pit with R-rubber and a 2nd set of wheels, especially considering how much 18" rubber goes for. For now it's fun and I don't have to give up autocrossing.

sounds like a fun time to me!

there have been a couple of g35 coupes locally that have run. the car seems to be very well balanced between suspension and power. like you said you can come out of a corner pretty hard and not fry the tires or step the back end out and thats on street tires. overall i really like those cars. id take a G35 coupe anyday over a 350Z.
