(IMG:http://www.fbodyeurope.org/albums/roys-scrap-album/DSCF0179.jpg) (IMG:http://www.fbodyeurope.org/albums/roys-scrap-album/DSCF0180.jpg) Yes that is me. I got in three good sessions at the ring. I gave a friend the first ride and nearly scared the pants off of me, Brakes were still little green. That Detroit Locker really bites coming out of tight turns and coming in , well lets just say you better leave the sissy pants at home. :drive: Started with a full tank of fuel and ten minutes into the third session it started to run out . I pulled off and was headed to the gas station. I rounded the shell station there at the track and Kaboom all shat broke loose. I think it must of had a defect. I think this car is trying to pay me back from the stunt I pulled on it last year. |

Ouch Roy. I saw the oil trail, "expensive" in the title and was thinking "Rod through block", a rear diff isn't so bad (compared to that).
That sucks. Glad it wasn't on track. |

Thanks guys
Last year around this time , I crashed on a perfectly straight section of the track while putting a little heat in the tires. 10minutes earlier a Opel Tigra emptied its belly of all the oil it had in a 200 meter area that I did this in. I was the first to crash . |

Bummer Roy! Runnin' a Detroit Locker you may want softer springs. I went through a set of front tires in one weekend with a stiff set-up the first time I had the Detroit out on track. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) I also thought I was going to need new kidneys! The other part is you learn to modulate the locking with your right foot. Take it easy until you get used to the way it works.

That sucks man. And if you say "ring" as in "Nurburgring", you are the luckiest man alive! I'd kill to drive that track.

Sorry to see the carnage... (but at least your leaking outta the back and not the front!! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) )
A question though... What sorta times are you (and any other fbody's) pullin at the Nuerburgring ... i've a friend (http://www.bmwm5.dk/) from denmark that has visited the track ALOT in the past few years with his M5. I'd love to be able to give him some numbers on what our cars can do (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) thx, jeff as a note, he's always sending me pictures of the insane machines he sees while there... i'm extremely jealous and frequently tell him hes a rotten bastard (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

A word to the wise - review previous threads about Detroit Lockers and 7.5 inch rears. They are poison and will break stuff. It's T2R or none at all. I tried the Detroit and gave the evil POS away to a drag racer with stern warnings. Detroits are for NASCAR or off roaders only.

QUOTE Detroits are for NASCAR or off roaders only. I've been happily running my Detroit Locker in CMC in the third gen with a Dana 44 for about three seasons now. I tried several different posi traction devices offered for that rear and none came close to the Detroit. In my 4th gen CMC car I am running a a T2R and am happy with that and my 10 bolt. They are not that different in the way they work on a road course IF they are set up properly. I think the DL gets a bad rap because 1)Folks do not have soft springs that you have to have with it (softer than posi set-ups) and 2) Folks just don't know how to modulate it with their right foot. |

Jeff my fastime at the Nordschleife is 8min 30 in full boogie. I don't have the skills to drive it any faster . A normal time because of traffic is right a round 9 minutes. Too many motor cylce crazies out there that ripp the stretches and become moving Chicanes through the curves. Try to tell them Cars are faster than bikes on this course. :drive: (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/whip.gif) . I know a couple of vikings from Denmark , I don't think I know him though. I have pulled over to let him pass me before years back.
Bobby that was a ford nine inch with Locker. Good news is Firechicken Express delivered all the Parts yesterday to build a new dropout. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif) |

Well, Roy, as I said on the phone:

QUOTE 2) Folks just don't know how to modulate it with their right foot. This is not the problem. The Detroit locker sold for the 4th gen 10 bolts is not the same as any other DL I have driven. I have driven them since the 60's - 70's when you could get them new from the factory on Hi-Po Fords. The original DL's worst habit was a loud clicking as you made a turn and the propensity to kick the car sideways with non-judicial use of the throttle. The 4th gen is called a C-Locker and has way too much internal slack in it. In fact, the material that came with the locker advised users to be aware of extra slop in the axles. I drove the thing on the street and when you cannot make a turn in a parking lot no matter how you touch the throttle there is something wrong. The slop in the axles was so severe that the banging would knock out the trunk mounted CD player. After a few hundred miles of this and one track excursion the DL was relegated to the pile of parts never to be used again. Use a DL in your 4th gen 10 bolt and be ready to break something. I'm not even thinking of drag racing so don't go there. In addition to the other bad habits the DL was screwing with the syncros and made it difficult to make a smooth 1-2 shift. It would scratch unless done perfectly, or just powershift and jam it in. I'm guessing the thing was remaining locked and introducing a flywheel effect on the trans output shaft. |

I gotcha Bobbylee, thanks for the explanation. I did not even know you could get these for a 10 bolt. No need with the T2R around. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/thumbup.gif)
