That sounds like a fun time! If I end up moving back east (Huntsville area) I'd want to race on that track.

I'm pretty sure we have enough "for sures" now. We have set May 22nd as our tenative date. Talladega GPR is going to have a price increase the 30th of this month and they would prefer that we wait untill then to send our money in. If we have more than ten cars, all additional cars will be 100 bucks apiece {it looks like we might actually have ten or more cars now}.

Have you been before? It's a nice track with plenty of runoff.

My stock engined car was running 1:08's there, let me know how you do!

Our Atlanta schedule should be ready by the end of this week, we need to get your butt down here for an autocross!!

100 bucks you say? I might have to make a trip back home to join in on this kind of fun (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) .

I may even have to drag ol' trackbird down too if he hasn't done something stupid like sold his car by then. Heh.

We do it all the time down here, let me know if or when you and Kevin can come and we'll try to set one up. They will be closing due to road contruction and renovation so will be closed after mid-summer this year. Here's the scoop:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Talladega Gran Prix Raceway, a 1.35-mile road course for motorcycles and go-karts located near Talladega, Alabama will be closed during the second half of 2006 due to the widening of Highway 21, which borders the track property.
According to co-owner David Upchurch, there currently is no exact date when the track will shut down as the Alabama Department of Transportation has given him no exact date it will begin widening Highway 21 from two lanes to four lanes at the track’s entrance.
Upchurch said when he begins scheduling the 2006 season in December, he will not schedule any track rentals past mid-summer 2006. Upchurch plans to re-open the track on January 1, 2007.
In addition to forcing the closure of the track, the highway widening will take away some of Talladega Gran Prix Raceway’s property and some of the run-off area of its fastest corners. As a result, the track will be re-configured while the highway construction takes place.
Ed Bargy, the original designer of the 20-year-old track, has been working on the reconfiguration plans for at least two years, said Upchurch.
“I think people will like the new version even better than the old,” said Upchurch, who said the track will remain approximately 1.35 miles in length. "
I've been on that track a bunch,,,, just not in car and not in about 15 years! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) I used to race bikes back in the day, I turned 1:05s on a production FZR400. I think I'm actually faster in my car so I will see? Gonna try a trackday on my bike too if I can as I would like to get some times on it before they change the track. I'm gonna be very disapointed if I've gotten so old that the times I turned on a 50HP, 400lb bike beats the R1 with 140HP and roughly the same weight.
I like autoX, it just doesn't like me {can't seem to turn that sea of cones into a track}. Come out to the Year One Experience and give there little AutoX a try. Last year I took second and came home with a good bit of gift certificates.
Welp, bad news,,,,, no 100 dollar track days. Tally went up on their prices rather substantially {at least for folks in our situation}. Please check the above GAFBA link or TGPR's website- http://www.tgprace.com/leasing.htm for further details on pricing. Even if only five folks show up at the 1500.00 dollar rental fee, that is still only 300 bucks for 8 hours of track time split between 5 folks,,,,, still not too bad. Hopeing to be able to get as close as possible to 10 cars.
Damn - only five people on the track for an 8-hour day!! Add a private instructor and you've got a great learning session!
The day will cost 1200 bucks so it's it's not quite as bad of a price increase as my previous post. We have eight people right now,, any more want in?
