Had a great run at the 06 Nevada Open Road Challenge running in the 170mph average speed class. I was navigating for a buddy of mine for the run in his corvette. We missed out target mph by .03 mph and the target time by .3 of a second. good enough to bring home the 1st place hardware in the 170 class. Everyone said that if you can get inside of 5 seconds in the 170 class we would be doing pretty good. So I guess we did damn good. I am still pretty amped about the whole thing but cruising down that road at 195-200mph really makes you understand what the word "mortality" means. This was the first event in 9 events that Jeff(driver) had finished so he was REALLY excited. I got a ton of pictures here if you want to see them. I also got the whole run on digital video, I just need to get it transfered to my lap top.

I know, I know......I am a bad boy. But I had to give a "shout out" to tech since the admin sponsors me for some of my events.

I had a chance to go for a ride in that thing from Ely to the start line. About 40-60 miles. I thought the owner was giving me a hard time because he knows the F40 is my favorite car of all time. But when we got to the start line he said "Dude!, I waited from 5am to 520am for you to come down and you never showed up". It was right at that moment I felt like cutting my own nuts off and never claiming to be a man again. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/banghead.gif)

Hi Boyce,

How were the safety procedures at the NORC? I heard there was no Life Flight on standby and the ambulances were not staffed with an EMT? I have avoided NORC and the Silver State in the past due to safety concerns. I was hoping it had improved.

IMHO, Running a dealer stock car is not much of a challenge. Most people do not see it my way however. It kills me to see the geriatric set in their stock Corvettes running the lower classes. They will freely admit they turn on the A/C and set the cruise as soon as they leave the start line. Where is the challenge in that? They are really fast to put that oval Big Bend sticker on their car. Perhaps that is all they want - bragging rights. The course is demanding and punishing in the higher classes and I enjoy seeing a well modded car that rises to the occasion --esp. an older car that has both been restored and modded to run in ORR. Half the cars out of 140 at Big Bend were Corvettes, 17 F Bodies. I hope the Corvettes do not take over.
