Topic pretty much says it.
Was UMI the ones that took over making the C5 brackets to bishop specs?
If not who tackled the chore?

Jason no UMI did not. Our Feerless leader Kevin (AKA Trackbird) is handling it now.

Check in the Sponsor section under Track brackets GP.

Kevin bought/licensed/whatever the design from Bob Bishop and took over the business end of things, but I think the actual fabrication is still done by the same vendor that Bob used.

UMI, by their own admission here some time ago, produces an unauthorized copy of the Bishop design. There are some differences in the material and finishing process used, with differences of opinion on how that affects the end product. I am in no way qualified to comment on those discussions, but I'm sure they're still in the archives somewhere.

Sorry, I've been out with our very own "Crazy Canuck" today and just got in and found this one.

Yes, I purchased the rights to the design from Bob Bishop when he decided to "retire". I've been building the brackets in limited batches through "GP's" here at frrax and they were being sold by speed specialty as well.

The product is being built and anodized by the same shops that Bob used and nothing has changed in the design since Bob last produced them. I kept them just as Bob intended and promised Bob that I'd not change specs without his input (if I ever had the urge to do so, which I haven't).

Let me know if I can help.

Well a few threads emerged awhile back on the issue.
UMI brackets aren't Bob's design...

Crazy Canuck made RedNeck buy an igloo.
He still has to get used to snowmobile-cossings, deer/moose crossings, dog-sled crossings.
Looks like he's enjoying the northern area, but ashame he's only here for such a short period of time.
He drove a black 500+ dog-sled and enjoyed it.

This was the quote I was thinking of. "Copy" may not have been the right word.

"I also will not lie to you; it is obvious we have taken your design into account for production of your brackets. I have seen both your steel version and aluminum version bracket’s; however it has been sometime since I have seen the aluminum design."

I remembered all the previous posts, but I was thinking a shop had made them and was selling them beyond the GP Kevin was doing, I was under the assumption that the last batch Kevin did was all accounted for at this point hence the reason I was looking for a vendor that regularly carried them.

Kevin, when are you doing another batch?

It could be soon. We can start a thread and get the orders started if you're interested. If so, I can post it in the GP forum.

Is Speed Specialty actually stocking them?

I think they had one set left, but it may be gone by now. Speedspecialty was running GP's on camaroz28.com, but they had a set or so left over from one of the last batches (I don't know if it's gone, I'd think it is by now).
