pretty much as the title says. street legal 99 firechicken, barely every driven, so i can't get one of them little batteries. my current one is i think on it's last breath, and i'd rather replace it before not after it leaves me stranded somewhere.
most people say optima redtop, but i hear it's also a one heavy boat anchor. any other good options out there? thanks, Marcin |

The red top is what I use, it sits for months with the hood open(engine removals) and still starts! It may be a boat anchor, but i'm the ship anchor on the other side! LOL

I've only had the red top for a little over a year, but so far it's fine. Time will tell.

My last red top lasted 5 years. Previous Sears batteries lasted 2-3 years in the Florida heat.
I've read about lightweight batteries on ls1tech, but they can die within 25 minutes if you accidentally leave the lights/radio on, etc. |

I'm a fan of the little batteries. You just need a Battery Tender when the car isn't driven for a while. I have them in both my Camaro (weekend car) and Evo (daily driver). Both batteries are 3+ years old and going great year round with appropriate maintenance (i.e., charging).

I've had a Hawker/Odyssey PC680 for about a year. Over the winter it drained pretty low and wouldn't even turn on the fuel pump. I gave it a few hour charge on a 'VERY' old charger then topped it off with the cheapy recommended peak charger. It came back fine and starts at every autocross. This is on a motor that a factory starter will not even bump over once hot. I also use a Jeg's high torque starter. I've left the car off the charger for up to 2 weeks with no bad results. Typically I only let it go a few nights without the charger.

My first redtop lasted 11 months or so then wouldn't start my truck. The replacement redtop has been just fine.

it's installed, works fine. it used to be 11.3-11.7v just sitting there, now it's 11.9. started up used to be 13.9, now it's 13.7. is that good?

Yes
When your batt is low the voltmeter/alt is charging higher, than as it charge's the gauge/alt drops. |

Red top here too. Mine survived completely unscathed from a dying then dead alternator too.
