Just wondering if there's been a patch to fix the way people were exploiting links in sigs.

I know I learned a lot (and am still doing so) by going through people's sigs and looking through their build pics. A picture is worth a thousand words, as they say.

Just mentioning it because it doesn't seem like enough people will put their site URL in their profile unlike when they could put it in the sig.

I was just wondering the same thing. Actually I was just wondering why I couldn't put more than "X" amount of characters and no links would work when I tried a month ago.

I'd like to be able to link my cardomain to the two cars listed in my signature.

Not a big deal really... just curious.

We had/have some security issues with this software that were allowing people to use links to do bad things. That was one strike against them.

We had people who insisted on using sig pics, and most of them weren't "family friendly" (or work friendly for many of us). That was strike 2 against html/links in sigs.

We had people who insisted on listing every single part on their car in their sigs (like is common on other boards) which just made threads cluttered and hard to read. That was basically strike 3.

Eliminating HTML/images from sigs fixed the first two. Shortening the sig length fixed the 3rd one.

That's how we got where we are. I might consider changing it back, but this is the first time that anyone has mentioned missing the info. I try to be reasonable and open to suggestions though.

I haven't been able to update my profile for some time - more than xxx characters. Mebbe why more info is not in the profiles.

Just send me what you want, formatted how you want it, in most cases, I can manually change them for sponsors.

I haven't been able to change my sig either due to the TOO MANY CHARACTERS problem.

I am one that also misses the sigs of other users, since it is easy to find their site with pics.

I personally think that smaller sigs are better. I visit some message forums that have pics so large in people's signatures that I can't find the text. I find I don't frequent those boards often as a result. Although I could be in the minority.

Whenever you get that, just PM me, I can fix it for you.

OK, sig length is 150 and you can use BB code, which should allow links (I think).

Thanks... I think that will work.

We'll not be allowing sig pics, that's not going to change. We'll try allowing links to your home page in the sigs for now. I'm still against the "every mod on the car, including my painted air vents" sigs. They are clutter and we don't care about your air vents..... Thank you, again.

I hate boards with sig pics, it clutters up the discussion. Same with long sigs. The worst is when you are tring to search for a topic and you get tons of hits from sigs. So you get threads that have nothing to do with what you are looking for.

That's why I had the limit at 75 characters and no HTML. I got sick of taking sig pics down, so I just made them not work. We'll try it, but I'm likely going to start banning those with sig pics (if/when they show up)....(IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Everyone in this thread has perfectly acceptable sigs. I just don't want the extra allowable length to change that. Likewise, if you see something that's amazingly long (I know there are still a few), PM me, we'll get it fixed.

Howdy,

Personally, I'd rather have no sigs at all. Or maybe a 30 character, all on one line setup.

Sigs are annoying.

Agreed, though vendors have to be able to put their contact information in them. It's back to trying to please everyone, and not very well. We'll try this for a bit and see how it works. If you use a link in your sig, the link is counted, so if you put "my car" and then it's a 50 character link, it counts and they won't go. But, if someone decides to list everything on the car, they have more room to try it.

We'll fine tune it more as we go.

Howdy,

How about sigs only for vendors/site contributers? Like, if they pay you, they can have a sig?

And then if someone pays you just so they can list their clear corner mods to their car, you can take their money and ban them immediately for being stupid?

Mark

(seriously, I'm fine with personal websites & lists of what you've done & all. I even appreciate being about to find that info out. But put it in your profile, so that its not in everyone's face all the time.)

I'd forgotten to check this until now.

Thanks Kevin, that's what I was hoping for, links but no sig pics or big sigs.

Mark: I understand where you're coming from, but what's the difference between James' sig and Kevin's sig? A quick link is all I'm looking for since it seems like people don't usually remember to put their site in their profile.

Woot! I updated my sig to make it as long and annoying as possible. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I don't care about links. Kevin brought that up, presumably releated to some kinda hacking threat or something.

What I don't want is sigs more than like a line long. And no pictures.

I'm fine with sigs of any content that are no more than 1/3" tall on my screen.

:-)

What's funny about this is that nape's personal website is blocked by my works as offensive.

Work filters also concerned me (like Rob mentioned).
