Well I just got an email from Tire Rack about this and came here to post it. Sounds like Kumho is doing the right thing by swapping them out for something else and then giving you a redesigned 710 for free when it comes out. It's going to be a bit of a PIA but better safe than sorry.

I've run three autocrosses so far on them and absolutely love them. I was looking forward to my first road course event with them on April 17th & 18th but I guess that won't happen now. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) Time to call Tire Rack.

I jumped on this and have a new set of Ecsta V700's on the way. I doubt they'll be here before the next autocross this Saturday but they'll definetly be here in time for Roebling Road on the 17th. I can't imagine running the 710's on a road course after they had been recalled.

Does this mean they won't be legal for competition in SCCA since the "enhanced" version was not available in 6 sizes by the date they were supposed to be?

Jeff, why did you choose the Ecsta V700 over the Victoracer? Is it better for autoX or some other application?

I've got a friend running them and loves them so since they are essentially free I thought I would give them a try. I did it on a whim and now that I've thought about it I probably should have gone for the Victoracers, oh well.

I ran my 710's two weeks ago at MSR in Texas.
The car felt like it was on freekin RAILS!
Which usually means I wasn't going fast enough yet my times were faster than ever before.
I hate to see this tire go through a learning curve but Kuhmo is handling the situation quite well.
I am going to send them back for a set of victoracers and count the days until the new 710's arrive on my door step.
I need to inspect them very closely for any signs of splitting.
Reguardless they are going back.

Jeff,

Tim here from Roebling last time! Wish I was going to roebling but I have no tires for the z06 or the z28, why? because I got a set of v710's and just sent them back today!

I hope you are getting those ecsta's shaved, cuz if not you are going to trash them for sure with 2 days at roebling. Those tires will chunk like crazy if not shaved. Lee the guy with them m3 tore up a brand new set in one day at roebling, and this is in a 2800 lb car.

I have done a lot of work on my camaro and this car is starting to get pretty mean! Hope to see you around soon!

I ran my v710's at cmp and after a day they started coming apart. You will see a straight line across the tread. THis line gradually gets deeper until the tread starts peeling off.

I am a bit crazier than most folk, but what I would do is run those v710's at roebling, and then send them back.

The tires come apart slowly, and you can easily see when it is happening. The T1 guys have run them and have had no blowouts. Anyway, you could get a free weekends worth of tires since you get a free replacement.

Tim

Hey Tim I didn't realize you were on here. I was hoping you guys would be back at Roebling but no tires makes it tough. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I got the Ecsta V700's yesterday and had them mounted today so I will be running on them this weekend. I did have them shaved because I was aware of their reputation for chunking if run at full tread depth. I probably should have gone with the Victoracers but thought I would give these a try since they are essentially a free set.

I had run three autocrosses on my V710's and the line or groove you're talking about was already highly visible. Even before the recall I was wondering what was up and was keeping an eye on it because it was getting more visible after each event. I'm definetly not as crazy as you because I didn't consider running on the 710's after they were recalled. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) I did want to run them at an autocross this past Saturday but the club I run with followed the SCCA's lead and banned them. I ended up running on my very worn Victoracers but they were still better than going out on my street rubber.

Jason and I probably won't be back to Roebling until September but hopefully we'll see you guys then.

Well if you could see the line I don't blame you!

I ran them on the z06 at cmp, and they are awesome, I was getting awesome grip and ran a 1:50 one of my first sessions, which is 2 seconds better than my time last year. I could give it full throttle on corner exit which is not the norm!

have fun, and take care of a few of them porsche boys for me!
