A friend with a 2002 SS and suposedly SLP gave me his VIN and asked me if I could find out if it is a SLP. Are there any online resources that may assist with that? Carfax isn't much use, saying it is a Z28.

Thanks,

steve

Call SLP and they should be able to give him the build number and tell him what options they added. SLP also adds a second sticker in the door jam describing the content they added. If the GM door sticker had the RPO code WU8 it is a real SS. If it also says Y2Y then SLP did more than the base SS package and it should be listed on the SLP sticker.

The SLP Y2Y "content" second sticker will be on the passenger door.

As I understand it, the SS was a Chevy option with the buyer having the opportinity to further refine it thru the SLP facility in Quebec and have their available options installed. The options above and beyond the base level SS options (really just badges) included:

**Suspension of Bilstein or Koni DA w/springs to compliment them ('02 model);
**345 engine HP option to include the SLP/Blackwing intake and the SLP exhaust;
**HP rear diff by **** (I forget the other maker other than Torsen);

Maybe others too. I'd have to look at my literature. IAE, any SLP options would be included on a right door jamb sitcker.

Base SS got badges, hood, spoiler, 17 x 9 wheels, 275/40-17 tires, stiffer springs, IIRC heavier sway bars and a freer flowing exhaust.

SLP offered: Bilstein suspension (bilstein shocks, progressive rate springs, 1LE rear LCA & PHB, 35mm front 21mm rear sway bar, gusseted front sway bar brackets), 1LE suspension in '01 & '02, auburn diff, chrome wheels, performance exhaust, embroidered floor mats, key fobs/dash plaque, car cover and stuff I'm probably forgetting.

To complicate matters, the '96/'97 stuff is different from the LS1 stuff, and the LS1 stuff was changed for '01 & '02.

You can also send your buddy over to the SSOA MB http://www.chirpthird.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=10 he'll be sure to get a lot of info there.

Base SS got the hood, spoiler, badges and wheels and tires from SLP. The base SS exhaust was done at the GM plant. Base SS springs were the same as Z/28. The 32mm front bars was also added, but I'm not sure if GM or SLP added it.

1LE is the only thing that changed much over the LS1 years. 98-99 it was a GM installed option on the Z/28 before it went to SLP. 2000 had no 1LE option available at all and in 01-02 it was SLP installed.

The performance mods were pretty much as poSSum describes above. The 35-21 sway bars were only available in 02 (and maybe part of 01) all other years had 32-19 bars.
