I have an '02 Z-28 with only 4,000 miles on it. Last winter it would turn over a little slow on cold starts. It always started, but would surge at idle between 800 and 1200 rpm. The instrument lights even seemed to blink when the rpms dropped off from 1200. I recently replaced the battery with another Delco thinking the issue was a low battery,(it wasn't dead, but tested low), causing the computer to "re-boot" itself once it started. (I had a truck do this once). Anyway, it cold starts the same way with the new battery. Once it's warmed up a little, it starts just fine. Do I have a problem? TIA!

Do I have a problem? TIA! Yup, you should move to somewhere warmer right away!!!!! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) My 2002 with 83,000 miles on it acts about the same way when it's down in the single digits (not always, but sometimes, when it's really cold). I've not seen the blinking lights, but I'm going to guess it's related to the alternator speed and the engine rpm variation. |

First I would either drive the wheels off the car or put it in storage, and forget you own, it for 30+ years.
My Malibu kind of does a similar thing. When the revs drop at a stop thte lights dim, it has been doing this for the past 4 or 5 years. Sometimes the lights dim for no reason, but never anything to worry about. On cold mornings it started idling pretty high, 1300 rpm or so. I just live with it since it isn't that bad at all. It almost sounds like 2 different issues, your rpm issue causing the alternator and light problem. If you want to call it a problem. |
