We're updating some bits in our 92 B4C 1LE Camaro RS ex-Tx DPS car, like headliner and carpet, to start. Both have enjoyed decades of police use and life as a race car. The headliner fell years ago, but since I wasn't DDing it anymore, I didn't worry much, but quietly gathered parts while I was working and tucked them away in our shop. We are finally mostly-done with the restomod of the SVO, so I figured that it was a good time to start on the Camaro. I'm STILL gathering parts, as things have broken and been discovered missing while disassembly progressed.
Since I'm waiting on parts, I figured I'd get the headliner down and unpacked so I can figure out what I need to do for the install. It's one of those ABS things that everyone complains about. When I was buying, the reviews seemed to be all 1's or 5's, and not having much choice, bought one. I think I got it from Hawks, but am unsure. I know they just resell one of the couple that are on the market, so kwality issues really aren't on them. When I pulled the thing from the bag, I discovered that parts of the material are ALREADY sagging, and it seems the foam between the backing board and material has deteriorated. When you touch the material, it leaves an indentation in the fabric. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/banghead.gif) I'm kind of pi$$ed at this, but also kind of relieved we didn't install this thing only to have it fall while in the car in little time. I'm not sure what to do at this point. The old headliner board is broken in several places, in spite of trying to go easy with the removal. It was a cheap POS, too, so I'm not sure it can be reused. I'm half-tempted to pull the material off the 'new' ABS board, cleaning it, and then getting and installing some new material, but my last experience with that job years ago was a total failure (headliner on a '83 Impala). Does anyone know of a good manufacturer to order from? This crap sux!! (IMG:https://media.fotki.com/2v2ZKPNT8xJDYiP.jpg) Entire new headliner after pulling out of the packaging. We have a Canton 15-242T oil pan that came with our 95 Z28 that never got installed. That car had a 381 cu. in. LT4 in it. The PO was going to DE the car and wanted to insure engine life on track. He then discovered that a factory stock Z06 was so much nicer to drive, we got the car.
The car has been sold and the new owners didn't want it. We have no use for it, so it's available. It is new, in box (NIB), and in as new condition as a part that's been in indoor storage can be. It comes with the pick-up. We'd like $450 for the package, plus shipping. Thank you. We needed to add some better engine breathing on our LS1 on the CP Firebird, so instead of hacking up the valve covers we had, we got some tall OEM style covers to modify. The breather system works well, so we'll never go back to the old system. I have the take-off GMPP Pontiac valve covers for sale. They are lightly-used, but not abused. We had them on the car for a year, or two, before pulling them off. They've been in a plastic storage container ever since.
I'd like $400 for them, since they're NLA, plus the ride. They'll come with the bolts, push-in oil cap and used, but good, gaskets. Thank you. (IMG:https://media.fotki.com/2v2aNnDKuxJDYiP.jpg) (IMG:https://media.fotki.com/2v2aNnD7ExJDYiP.jpg)

We're going to be thinning our collection a bit, so our '12 Caprice will be one of those items. We've ordered a new vehicle that can do double duty as our tow rig, toad for our motorhome and pup-mobile, so are moving our '02 GMC 2500HD D/A and the Caprice to new homes.
It's been a great car, and a TON of fun to drive. It's one of those you turn back to look at when getting out of it and smile. It's got about 97,300 miles on it, I think we've put ~10K on it since getting it in 2015. It runs great, and everything works. If you want to see what we've done with it, there's a build thread here: https://www.newcaprice.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2541 It'll come with a lot of spares and parts we haven't installed yet: G8 carpet G8 console G8 power seat rack Holden rear spoiler, painted BMR front sway bar G8 3.27 LSD differential OEM steering wheel (it's been replaced with a G8 leather wheel we got from Crazy Paul) Installed the Holden fog lights per the thread on 'Adding fog lights to the Caprice' thread in the Electrical section. They've been wired to, and out of the fuse box in the engine compartment, but I haven't run the wiring into the cabin or installed the G8 light switch yet. Have the switch in a box, though. OEM front cat (take-offs when we did the X-Force exhaust install) OEM springs and struts (Installed BC Coil-overs) OEM sway bars (Installed BMR rear bar, but have front to install, just never did and never missed it autocrossing the car) OEM exhaust (I never get rid of anything!) OEM front brakes (Installed GM PP Brembos) Spare accessory idlers NIB (got when I replaced the belts, but the OEM idlers are in great shape) Chevy SS wheels (never did install them) NIB 9C1 wheels (planning to widen them for moar tire, just never did) Spare 9C1 shifter I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff. The headliner did sag, and I've removed the fabric from the board. I honestly don't even notice the difference other than being able to see out the rear view mirror. I still have the old fabric so it can be matched, but I have zero plans to replace the headliner at this time. I'd like to get $11,500 for the car. I KNOW I'm going to regret selling it, but we need to lighten our load some. Thanks. Questions? Just ask! I'm kind of expecting the answer to be no, but wanted to make sure, since any searches have turned up zero on the subject. I replaced my first replaceable wheel hub on our '12 Caprice. I wasn't even sure it was the problem, until I replaced it and the horrible grinding noise went away. All our other cars either have tapered wheel bearings, and I'm well-versed on those, or we haven't had problems with the hubs. We didn't track/autocross the Z28 enough to have any problems there.
So, can you/do you rebuild wheel hubs? It seems a shame to just throw out that big chunk of expensive paperweight, but if that's what's done now, so be it. Thanks. |
