For sale: 1999 Camaro Z28 hard top
-29,500 miles
-Black
-6-speed transmission with traction control
-Gray/red cloth seats, gray interior with power driver seat, windows and locks,
-Monsoon stereo with 12-disc changer
-Asking price: $12,500
-Located in Massachusetts

I'd like to sell this to another adult person who is interested in autocrossing/tracking or even drag racing. It's been a very reliable and fun car, but I'm ready to move on. I'm listing it as is with all currently installed suspension components. If someone wanted the car in stock condition, I would be able to remove parts and lower the price accordingly.

Drivetrain Upgrades
-Torsen T2R rear differential (installed in August 2007 along with new pinion, carrier, wheel bearings)

Suspension Upgrades
-Koni DA shocks front/rear (fourth-gen front, third-gen rear)
-550 front/150 rear springs (fronts are LG Super Springs 550lb and rears are Hypercoil 150lb - all four LG springs are included in sale)
-Global West tubular front control arms (gets about -2 degrees of camber, 4.5-degrees caster)
-Random Technology tubular steel torque arm
-Unbalanced Engineering rod-end, tubular steel panhard bar
-Strano Performance 36mm front swaybars (matching Strano 21mm comes with the car, but is not presently installed)

Other upgrades
-C5 brake upgrade (C5 calipers and rotors with stainless steel lines using Trackbracket conversion brackets)
-Turn One power steering pump (new spring 2007)
-Whisper lid
-Custom catback with Borla muffler
-Hurst shifter
-Hawk HPS rear brake pads
-Sparco Torino driver seat (needs new cover, though)

Wheels:
17x9.5-inch 38mm offset AFS ZR1 replicas (black with silver rim) Kumho MX tires (275/40/17) with near full tread (tires new spring 07)

Extras and spares included:
-Pair third-gen Bilstein generation rear shocks
-Hypertech programmer for setting wheel diameter, etc.
-One set each of: front lower front control arms, rear lower control arms, front hubs, PBR Metalmasters for LS1 calipers, front spindles and hubs,
-Stock parts: LS1 front brake calipers, rotors and Hawk HP+ pads, stock front swaybar, stock panhard bar, stock torque arm, stock front upper control arms, rear brake pads, stock power steering pump (minus pump pulley), stock T2 rear differential

Condition:
Overall condition is very good. Car is not a daily driver. But I have been autocrossing it for three seasons.
Paint--this car has always been garaged and has almost never been driven in winter or snow. (I drove it one time in the snow and only a handful of times in the rain.) Thus the paint is very good with only a couple of small imperfections.
-I have rolled the rear fender lips.
-There is a small crack in the front bumper cover (underneath where it can not be seen) and a small crack at the edge of the passenger-side front fender

If I remotely needed the car, I'd do it... ie, if it was for sale ~3 months ago, before I bought my last beater... I would have jumped on it.

It was nice meeting you John.
Was a fun day... 6hrs drive each way with some talk in the middle and lunch @ Boston.
Great car... although it didn't feel like a v8, although I checked it and it was... I guess one does get used to power. tongue.gif

Hope to see you soon... and good luck finding a C5 wink.gif

blink.gif And I got a thrill out of racing with my restrictor plate out in CMC2! 2thumbs.gif Congrats Eugenio that was a great deal for you! smile.gif

actually, the car will not be in my garage... it'll be very close.
It's a close friend of mine that is getting it.
He loved it so much when I spent time w/ him last year @ the track teaching him, that he wanted a good setup on his next car.
He had been looking for a 4th gen and loved John's car.
Great package and in mint condition.
Now he has promised he would work on the seat-mod... and I'll make sure I'll help him on it... lots of car there for learning.

Hey Eugenio, remember those Global West front upper control arms you wanted from me? Well, it looks like they are going to Canada after all. wink.gif
Crazy Canuck
damm... after typing a long text... lost the whole thing... (guess I should use my MAC instead of PC... that'll teach me) lets' try it again.

Anyways.
I'm really glad I was able to make the drive down and personally meet John... great guy.
The only thing I was afraid, was to make the long drive and for some reason, it not working out due to a disappointment, which wasn't the case... Actually, Denis was pleasantly surprised on the condition of the car, its paint, maintenance, setup, etc. Denis already had his mind pretty much done, due to the different email/pix exchanges, and asking me for details and information.

It was fun spending a whole evening w/ him explaining all the different parts, what they do and how that setup would be.. let me tell you that he was anxious... so anxious that on the spot, being that his english isn't the best, unknown place, he rather have me do the test-drive and give him my input rather than having him do the test-drive... I wasn't expecting that.

I'm really glad I was able to be a connection that helped out 2 of my friends (local + frrax friend)
As for Denis, I'll see if I can get him to join the board... he might just do it, since he's more and more enthousiast about handling/control than power.
I remember last years' fall, we had a track event for Montreal F-Body Association, where I was an instructor... go over basics, safety, seating position, vision, smoothness, talk about heal-n-toe, etc... you get the drill.
Those events are usually quite a success. Denis was a newbie and loved the experience. I can assure you that he learned a lot on that day, and due to his humble nature, was able to grasp a lot more than people that thought were better drivers than him...
He has a 3rd gen (white) showroom clean, automatic, and it was quite a handsfull @ the track... I still remember it... lol
Basically, has a locked diff (i think), HUGE rear swaybar, hard-dry tires, and inadequate shocks (as per our standards).
Just let me tell you that the rear end would lose traction effortlessly, even feathering the car... so in 1 way, was a great tool to start learning.
Anyway, Denis has gotten the chance to get in a 4th gen as well as a passenger in the same track... and loved it.

He's been thinking about upgrading to a 4th gen, ideallly an SS, and I was looking @ some other FS cars here, even the RX-7 ls1's (but that might have been quite some issue crossing the border/ paperwork/ inspections)
Anyways... he was lurking here like a hawk, and spotted John's thread before i did... and that's when this ball started rolling.
Glad to say that it was perfect timing.

As stated earlier, I ended up doing the test-drive, and felt like whatever input I would give, would be taken as gold... so I was very careful and attentive to all details (awkward situation, actually).

About the test-drive.
Alignment was perfect, but I think that we'll end up bringing it down a notch, for Denis' needs for now (keep +4.5 castor, bring it down to ~-1 camber, and bring it down to little toe-out).
Stearing was dead-on wink.gif tranny and engine was smooth and solid. different shifter than i'm used to, but after a few gear changes, was like butter.
T2R worked great, had a chance to accelerate on a corner w/ decreasing radius wink.gif Although the gears made a bit of noise, it was clear it was just the "backlash" that needed adjustment (no big deal) and John is taking care of it.
Suspension wise, I felt @ home... great setup... very similar to mine, except John had 19mm rear and i have 21 rear... something I've been thinking about changing... and I think I'll do it sooner than later... hehe.
Brakes worked well, and reminded me good old days of running the HP+ pads biggrin.gif gotta love the noise when the pads feel insulted you aren't using the full potential... lol
Springs + shocks = great combination and well adjusted.

I'm also anxious for Denis, especially knowing that it's his bday next week, and that this car is his own bday gift wink.gif
It'll be in great hands, of a fbody lover, that babies his cars, and has a great personality and wants to learn to be a better driver... I for sure will help him in any way I can so that he keeps on improving and works on his own skills.

This car is a great setup, great price, especially given the stronger CAN$ nowadays, and the paperwork for exporting ain't that bad.

I'd like to thank John for going out of his way 70miles from home so that it shortened our ride by 1hr each way.
I'm sure he'll miss his baby, but rest assured that it'll be in good hands, and under good friend observation wink.gif (that'd be me... lol)
And once again... good luck on your C5 venue.

As mentionned yesterday... whenever you come up here, especially that you are thinking on coming for some track time @ Mt-Tremblant track... let me know and we'll both be there, if not more ppl wink.gif

Anyway, I think I typed pretty much what I had typed on the first occasion and lost it all...
Yesterday was a great day...

Funny enough, I think yesterday was the 1st day that John saw a Chevrolet Optra... lol (my beater) and we even had some fun talking about the winter tires on them (studded)... 6 lines of studs on each tire... ice, snowy, dry... it simply grips wink.gif but driving the z28 was much more fun !!!

The ironic part is that the car is going back to its old neighborhood so to speak. It was built near Montreal.

Thanks for the kind words Eugenio...

I know... it's coming back to its home town... I live ~ 10-15 miles from where the plant used to be.
Denis lives ~ 25-30 miles from where the plant used to be... but still quite close enough.
There are some items I'll have to discuss w/ Denis to see if he wants to trade... like the BlaineFab front swaybar brackets wink.gif lol j/k

There is 1 mod that Denis will do when he gets the car, though.
It's an appearance mod, and don't blame him... getting rid of the front license plate section... and getting a nice one w/ the chevy bowtie... we don't have front plates in QC.
Crazy Canuck
oh... and I got to a GTO yesterday... woohoo !
The 4th time I see one... they are illegal in Canada, do not meet Canadian safety collision regulations.

Hi all. I'm glad everything worked out well and that Denis is happy with his new car. I was sure he would be.

I'm also glad it's in good hands. I didn't want to sell the car to some kid who would not appreciate it.

Now that the Camaro has been delivered safely, I can go shopping for a C5 Z06. If anyone knows of a good one (northeast is preferable), let me know... smile.gif

2 or 3 of them in the classifieds in the most recent SCCA Sports Car magazine. All are in various stages of modification.

don't know where they are located but can check them if you don't have access to the magazine.

There's a few listed at sccaforums.com in the classifieds there. They are Ex-T1 cars that are completely race prepped, though. Not sure how that fits in to your plans.
