I just registered in AS.

So far the competition is a M3, Evo, STi, C4, Porsche 993. Pretty good variety, but only 7 drivers including me.

So anyone else going?

I'll be there, #148 in ESP.

Cheap? Don't know of any offhand. Safe? Anywhere NOT near the event site.

I just got the following message from Nancy Downing:

"The event Chairman has informed the National Office that hotels in the DC area for Memorial weekend are very hard to find. It is recommended that you make hotel reservations ASAP and that you look in the following areas: Columbia, Jessup and BWI airport in Baltimore. These areas are approximately 25 miles from the event site."

I'll be there too, #195 CS.

As for where to stay? Memorial Day Weekend? That's a toughie. Knowing the area, I would want to stay somewhere that involves as little time on the Beltway as possible, which would mean staying in one of the areas listed in the note from Nancy Downing (Columbia, BWI-area, in general).

Gee, Karen..... Who's car are you co-driving now???? rolleyes.gif

I booked a Motel 6 2 miles from FedEx field... (Capitol Heights) was like $60/night or so, (not bad for a city) I'm just hoping the area isn't a ghetto. I think it was $66 for Fri & Sat & $50 for Sun (plus tax).

In fact I got a room with 2 beds if someone is willing to split the bill... I booked Fri, Sat, Sun. I figured if I was going to DC I might as well see something too instead of drive back on sunday evening.

I'll be out of town for the tour, but I will be at the Pro the weekend after. I have a white firebird to try and catch if I can. biggrin.gif

Around Fed-Ex is not the best place to stay, trust me I live a couple exit's from there. Like others have said look for hotel's up 95 toward Baltimore. Stay out of Prince George's county if you can. I'm looking forward to moving out of the getto in 2 months.
Sam Strano
I'm in, see you there

Since the Firebird won't be done, looks like I'll be cherry picking in a Kozlak- and Strano-less F Stock class. ;)

New job and lack of vacation preclude a trip to DC this time sad.gif Would have been nice to go home for the weekend...

Maybe next year...

Any of you DC tour attendees planning on doing North East Divisionals? If the job goes in the direction I hope it does, I may be able to make Divs...

Sarcasm, my friend. wink.gif

Dean Sapp is in the class, too. Although I've beaten Mike (driving the same car no less!) and Dean before. biggrin.gif

Right now, I'm planning on it. Ripken isn't too awfully far.... it's just that I'm actually a SEDiv member, so I'm also running that divisional series. smile.gif

I'm planning on it myself. Although, I might be in St. Petersburg (Russia) at the time....

Still in DC..... tired & worn out, but still have a huuuge smile on my face smile.gif

It was great meeting Karen, Pat & Mark, etc.

The course was a lot of fun. Even though my car isn't considered competitive, Pat Salerno drove a LT1 Z/28 to a time that was not much slower than the Kozlaks in their Porsche. I learned that there is still more time I can get out of the car.

I also learned my 4 yr old Hoosiers are equivalent to the street tires on the STi, which mean my BFG G-Force R1's must be worse than my street tires. My street tires were worse than the STi's...

Hopefully I can do more of the National Tour stuff as even though I was schooled by the Kozlaks I had so much fun on the larger course I didn't even care. Hopefully I can work out a deal to co-drive a z/28. I'm not kidding anyone by being in AS, although it was nice to beat someone in a brand new M3 with S04's. He was a really nice guy, so were all the other competitors.

Lastly, I learned that I shouldn't go south in 2021, the next secada eventure. I never seen a flying cochroach before......Hopefully I won't see them again either.

I had a great time at the Tour this weekend too. I'm sort of a comeback autocrosser at the this point and didn't expect to place well (and didn't), but I learned a bunch from the seat time on a big course (both driving and car setup) and am looking forward to future big events like this one. I'm planning on attending the Philly Divisional, though I'm planning to just spectate the Pro next weekend.

35th_Anniversary_AS_Camaro_SS, I wanted to meet you but somehow I never saw you with your car, except when you were running (when I didn't want to bother you). I'll catch up with you at the next big event.

What amazes me is that Strano would have placed 2nd in SS and 1st in AS.

He beat all the street prepared classes except CSP and BSP (would have been 2nd in both), beat all prepared classes except FP (would have been 2nd), would have placed 3rd in SM and 2nd in SM2......................

Looks like he would have PAX'd 6th overall. That's some friggin' driving... Don't let anyone ever say an F-Body can't run with the other cars... (it's ok to whisper under your breath... "if Sam's driving" biggrin.gif )

Great driving Sam...!

I had a great time this weekend coming in roughly mid-pack. More importantly, I realized how important it is to get to big events. Somehow, you could run bazillions of local events, but it doesn't necessarily translate to being able to "ramp-up" your speed to the level necessary for the longer courses typical of the big events.

Of course, what can't be beat is that great F-Stock bonding :-)

See ya at the NE Divisionals!
35th_Anniversary_AS_Camaro_SS
Rich,

As much as I love my car I tend to not hover around it much. Even when I was running I would get out and talk to the other AS guys some, but mostly hung out with the FS guys. If you came up and said hi when I was in between runs it would have been more than acceptable.

Steve,
I think Sam's major motivation was beating the Kozlaks in the Porsche wink.gif

Mark,
I tried to register for Toledo online, it wouldn't let me register. If you can get us in i'll get some Hoosiers. Maybe Sammy's got some pull? I think we should do Toledo (if we can), Peru & Topeka (why not?) =) I also agree it was great to hang out with all the f-body guys, even the former ones (Kozlaks & Bruce Bellom)
