Many of you know that some friends of mine and I ran (and won) the Detroit version of the 24 Hours of Lemons this year. We took a white 1986 Toyota Celica-Supra to the event and we ran the full 24 hours (that race was a true 24 hours, there was no break in the middle). Anyway, team hot rod showed up with a Lincoln (go figure) and they covered the event. In the article, they show a picture of the winning Lemons team, that's us.

We've been looking for a beat up 3rd gen for the next one. drink.gif

Kevin, your identity is well hidden.

Were is Waldo?

Kevin is the old guy in the very back that looks like Jerry Garcia after a bad night.

I'm behind (to the left) of the "I love hot mom's" shirt and to the right of the guy in the hat and Alfa t-shirt (which happens to be Mericet). I'm in a maroon SLP day (2002) t-shirt and my glasses are dark from the sun.

Congrats on the coverage and the win.

What's up with the bags of rocks?

We won $1,500 in nickels for our efforts. That's what's sitting on the bumper. That's also why the bumper says:

"We're in your lemonz race, winnin ur nickelz"

Who knew we'd actually win??? wink.gif

That's Jack. He's a member here as well (I forget his screen name, but he was a participant in my "My stand in co driver shows real talent" thread in late 2005).

And, Andy, he's only about 8 months older than I am.

We are probably picking up another car tomorrow for the second team. We're going to run the Supra again, but we are looking at doing a second car. Probably a Celica this time. If you're up for the madness, we probably have a place for you.

Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.... 2thumbs.gif

Edit:

Actually, I think we're getting a Corolla, not Celica. The mid '80's Celicas did rather well.

Ironic that you should mention a celica...

I bought a celica here in Georgia for $100 -- the body is in good condition, interior poor. The engine was clearly ONLY a blown head gasket so I bought it thinking it would match the other successful (light and 5speed) lemons cars.. I thought it had a 5SFE engine in it, but when I got it home and ran the numbers it was a 4A-FE (the 1.6 version). It was about that time when my Lemons team began the "backing out" phase. It is a 5 speed, the car is an STX, not a GT (though it has a GT spoiler, GT rims and GT taillights).

So, i'm sitting here in Atlanta with a $100 celica that I don't have any help with. My sons and I started the build and decked the head and were starting to put it all back together to run for atlanta region or GRM events -- but this this engine it does not appear to be a contender. I am going to start building it back next weekend if it doesn't sell. I reserve the right to change my mind about the sale once I start building it again.

So, this is the part of the story where I offer the car to anybody on this board who wants it for $80. If you don't want the current head, $100 with everything (i have $71 worth of machine work on the head). --- An important note -- the car will come with a bill of sale ONLY -- I have a 100% legal bill of sale, but the actual title is stuck in some bankruptcy court with a $120 lein on it. So, no title -- perfect lemons car.

Atlanta, Georgia -- Come and get it -- I'm going back to RWD American power.

Picked up the new Corolla today. For free, it's a good car. wink.gif

Sounds like fun. Well done on the win!

w/in hours of someone posting on the AICMCTexas.com site that the next 24HoL will be held at MSR-H (Houston) there have been 2 teams already planning builds. sounds like a good reason for the 2007 Champs to come down and defend. that or give me and Mitch the car and we will do it for you.

Hmm, we will be defending our title in Toledo. The Houston race (and another December Thunderhill race) are late additions to the (now) 8 race 2008 LeMons season. Of course, we might have a driver spot for you!
GlennCMC70
sweet.

looks like lots of fun... if it's not too far, i'd like to go and see... looks like a blast in itself.

Well, the Toledo race is the same weekend as the NASA Nationals. You might be able to make a pretty interesting weekend out of it as long as you don't mind a bit of running between events. I'm still trying to work out how I'm going to be both places.

Yes, I forgot about that NASA race at Mid Ohio. unsure.gif

I bought that issue. Crazy idea, but it looks like a ball. The "gravity racing" looks like fun too. But when did Hotrod start costing $5.99? blink.gif
