Full Version: Fitting 98+ nose and hood with 93 - 97 fenders?

I'm going ot update the red car with the 98+ nose and hood that I've had laying around for a while. I don't have any 98+ fenders though, so I'm hoping I can just trim the 93-97 fenders that I have already.

Does anyone know if I can get a decent 'race car quality' fit with the 98+ nose and the earlier fenders witha bit of careful cutting?

Nick, I'm not 100% certain, but I think the LS1 cars have a different radiator support in front too. I don't know if that will affect the fit on a race car though. I would think your best bet is to pull the LT-1 bumper off and line the two up to see how much trimming is necessary. Personally, I don't think it will be too easy.

We briefly went down this road when we got a 98+ bumper cover for some reason. I can't recall if the 98+ bumper cover overlaps the earlier fenders, or if it's the other way around, and there's a gap that needs to be filled. Either way, we scrapped that idea pretty quickly. If I recall my reasoning it was a lot of hassle and parts purchasing just to update the look and get minimal (if any) gain. Then again, my fab skillz have gotten a little better since then. I still wouldn't take it on though, not enough bang for the buck.

What are you hoping to achieve?

Nick - The fender material trims nicely with a flap disc - lotsa dust, tho.

but,

Rockauto shows cost of both front fenders is $80 - ya, for both. Shipping from WI is high, but I bet there's a warehouse in LA with stock.

The reason I wanted to try and modify the 93 - 97 fenders is that the 98 hood & nose that I've already got are red to match the car smile.gif If they can't be modified simply then I'll go for picking up a couple of the cheap import fenders and get the front end of the car painted..
