New radiator and fan mounting and duct work ...

Brake line plumbing ...

PCM location ....

Fuse block location ...

JKnight
I put a ps reservoir in that location - then drove a screw into it putting the fender liner back on. I'm sitting there a week later wonder where the f*$% this ps fluid is coming from. Doh!

Did you have to lengthen wires to get the pcm into the cockpit, or just put a hole in the firewall / heater core plate and pull it through? Without the windshield wiper cowl thingy ours is exposed to the elements pretty good.

Thanks for the pics.

The stock harness was absolutely hacked to shreds. So, I bit the bullet and used a Painless harness. They offer a "long" version that add's about 2' to the stock length harness. So the harness routes through the stock location.

As it turns out, I am not real happy with that location.

Debris collects under and behind that cradle I built. That is also very close to the passenger side exhaust.

In this picture ...

to the right of the PS reservoir, you can see my forced fan Setrab oil cooler.

What kind of Power Steering reservoir did you use? Part number?

Thanks,

It's a KRC brand ...
http://www.krcpower.com/catalog_c269956.html

I bought it from a dirt track racing supplier ... Midwest?? can't recall.
It had -10AN on the bottom and a baffle inside. Mae it a little more pricey ... around $100 IIRC blink.gif

Thank you sir!

Nice work Mitch!

Do NASA's general competition safety rules require an externally accessible battery cutoff as well?? Or is the interior mounted one sufficient?

I was wondering about this too. I don't want to run my primary wires to the left side of the car, all my wireing/battery/fuse box is on the right side. I could put the cut off near the passenger door, but than I can't reach it from the drive seat. How far is the "safety crew" willing to reach in?

I had to do a sanity check ....

QUOTE
15.8 Master Switch
An electrical master switch is recommended on all cars, and required on some, as listed
in the class rules. It shall be mounted so that it is easily accessible from the outside. If
mounted outside the cockpit, it should be mounted in an area where it is least likely to be
damage (e.g. cowling near wipers). The switch shall cut all power except to the onboard
fire system and any other life support / medical device. The switch location must
be clearly marked. Any marked switch must function as per this rule, or the indication
decal must be removed.

My thought process was to make it "easily accessible" from either side of the car as well as me in the seat.

I was alway wondering what "other life support / medical device" they were refering to. I think adding a heart/lung machine in the back seat area, even though a good idea, was not CMC legal. No matter how you interpret the updating/backdating clause. blink.gif

As an emergency work for awhile, I can tell you.... I wouldn't want to(but will cuase i'm stupid) climb in your car if its on fire ect... to turn off the master power if the fuel pump is feeding the fire ph34r.gif I will(and have) do my best to keep your car from burning to the ground though.

It's a good idea guys to leave the M/P and Fire system easy for the safety teams to get to(its just a little bit of wire) just incase you are out of it and on fire, and can't pull those systems yourself blink.gif

JMHO

EDIT: Looks great bud! What nose support is that?

John I appreciate that dedication and pray to God above you are never in a position where you have to lay it on the line for me or a fellow competitor.
But God Bless for your willingness to do so.

Having said that ... which side would you suggest I put it?
How can I predict where a corner worker will have the best access?

And where can I put it so that I can reach it as well? After all ... I got there first. wink.gif

For the record ... I have considered installing a second one at the base of the A-Pillar ... and placing it in series with the first.

The nose support is the cobbled together pieces of a stock head light support bar.

I've been thinking the battery cutoff switch issue through as part of my battery relocation plans. What about doing an external shutoff located near the A-pillar with a pull cable to actuate the switch/key to shut it off from inside the cockpit? That way the safety crew could easily manually access it from outside the car, but you as a driver could still shut the power off from inside if you needed to.

I think you could easily fabricate a cable system with a knob and just have the knob located within reach in the dash or next to the seat, either way. You can buy bicycle cable and housings and it would be easy to weld in a couple ends and fabricate the entire affair really.

I actually made a panel that fits in the driver side duct which I mounted the Kill switch to. Basically right at the base of the A-pillar as you mentioned. Easy for just about everyone in or out of the car to reach. I have been thinking about putting another on the right side of the car.

Thank you bud.

Allways the drivers side, during a crash/impact I'm heading to the driver! They are my only concern, and I can kill the power right than and there. And if you have a Halon system I can pull that to if need be. I carry a halon system which is for ME! And a fire bottle 5lb which is for the car if its burning.

Here is a picture of what Alan and I did.
