I was surfing channels last night and came across, Setup on Speed network. Is this the new season? Also, I thought I saw our own Roco as one of the competitors.

I meant to watch it last night because my boss has a Solstice and watches, for some reason I missed/forgot about it. Yes it is the second season, the first they used yellow ones instead of silver. On their website it said something about winning a ride in the Rolex 24 hr. I think.

Let's not forget Pat Stone, another West Coast CMCer, as Brady's crew chief. We saw Pat for a bit at the last CMC race at Buttonwillow and wondered where Pat and Brady were, just that they were on some "top secret project!" I see that MAC Tools is their sponsor, cool! Hubby used them a lot when he worked in the biz.

Musser is a former member of the Texas A&M Sports Car Club, and used to run a decent number of our events. He certainly has the talent (and the ego...), but I probably would too if I was as fast as him.

I remember jordan from CZ28. bought a few parts from him. Seemed to be a pretty stand up guy but towards the end of his time there he definitely seemed to be getting an ego. He never posts anymore.
I'll DVR the show tonight. thanks for the heads up.

From the looks of that second link....and the CARNAGE that was shown on the SETUP promo on Musser's website.....looks like the Speed crew went for and got what they were looking for....
A shit ton of "excitement"....
Holy banged up cars Batman! Looks like a Miata race! Talk about guys and gals running a "bit" over their head.....

I don't post quite as much as I used to (considering I managed like 14k+ posts in just a few years at CZ28.com) But i got crazy busy when I started pursuing racing professionally... full time school(engineering), full time job, and traveling the world trying to be a race car driver. Left little time in between for anything else. And any "off" days I have/had I try to find an autocross or a race car to drive

Welcome Jordan, nice to have you drop in. I forgot you were a member here (I know many of the members, but I guess I can't remember them all). I'm going to have to try to get time to watch this show (I don't watch much TV these days). Looks interesting.

Jordon, Nice to hear from you here. What was it like being team mates with my CMCer buddy Brady? I have really enjoyed racing with Brady and he is a gentleman to boot.
Looks like you are going the way of Ryan Newman with the engineering degree. Awesome, I wish you the best for all your career goals!

Brady is awesome. Great teammate and a good guy. We had fun on and off the set. We actually plan to do some racing together this year. We only picked each other on height since we basically had 10seconds to find a teammate, but it ended up being a great partnership.

Yep, Junior is driving. Courtney Courmier, (a mechanic by trade, and great driver himself), went with him as his mechanic. It looks like FRRAX owns the series this year. At least in numbers, I have no idea how it shakes out.

Carnage **may** make for "good" TV, but it doesn't have much to do with developing into a pro race car prospect.....IMHO.
I wonder what happened with last year's winner? Do we see him on the GTO Grand Am team? This years winner may find himself/herself in the same boat....

Can't agree more. Drivers that cause carnage aren't going to win anyway. It will be interesting to see if they take any real talent out with them!
And if you have ever been to a Grand-Am race, the ST and GS classes contain a lot of no talent rich guys.. which make for a very similar amount of carnage!

Feb 25 2008, 08:51 PM
I think any form of racing that's full of "no talent rich guys" will follow with carnage. I've seen it in vintage racing more than a few times (I saw a nice, original Shelby Cobra that wound up in the wall at Road Atlanta at a SVRA event). It seems to be an unfortunate reality.

I have been to a number of Grand-Am races.....and totally agree with your assesment of them.

That said I DO wish you luck in Setup and beyond.....I do watch it, because it is one of the few non NASCRAP-centric shows out there, and does have some entertainment value....

I sat with a driver at NASA Nationals last year that had gotten a GA ride for a short while.
His assessment was that there are 10% talented drivers on a well funded team, 10% talented drivers on an under funded team and 80% are folks who pass for drivers in costume only and have a fat checkbook.
That appears to be the norm across the board.

...and even more so the late, GREAT Mark Donahue (since he was a damn good road racer).
Ironically, he was born, and spent his early life in the next town over from me (I almost live right on the border of this town, Summit, N.J.).

Money is the key to racing not talent.... the skills at sweet talking to get it are as important to getting a ride.
Now if you can drive and be a asshole say like Tony Stewart then you can REALLY drive a car. Arrogance means nothing.
Not to be totally un-PC but why do you think no talent Jap guys and Indians get rides in F1? Not to metion that whole Red Bull thing is all BS, they need to be able to give them good cars before they offer guys rides. AJ and Scott Speed get shafted because of that deal, now I don't think they can drive a Cup car good enough to survive but man junk cars and motors don't help.
