This is a suggestion for the admin. Can you make exceptions to the 4-letter min search filter?

You cannot search for strings of characters like:
LS6
LS1
T2R

Can common 3 letter strings be placed on an exception list so we can search for 't2r install'?

Thanks!
Chris 96 WS6
I can't alter the code to allow such searches, its built in to the programming for the board.

You can search for "T2R install", you just can't search for T2R....

I tried "T2R install" and "98 1le car". I also went to the junk forum and created search terms. I was wishing that all that was wrong with my search were the omission of double quotes.

This is what I see for a search on “T2R install”
"Sorry, but we did not find any matches to display. Try again and broaden your search criteria. If you were searching for new posts since your last visit, it's possible that there are none to show."

The appearance is short strings are not indexed.

I typed T2R install and found this thread.

Make sure you select all forums in the search parameters. I believe it defaults to the forum you were in at the time.

Now, I find one marked "search test" in the junk forum (your post, I'm guessing).

Also, it defaults to within the last 30 days and you may want to try "older than 30 days" as well.

Or, select "all forums" and "any date".

That will return these:

That looks to be all posts on the subject.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Kevin.

I see the solution is if you want to search for a word shorter than 4 chars then the string [do not include the quotes] "1le car" will work. Searching on "1le asdfg" or "1le OR car” will not return results.

Anyway, I learned a nuance of searching, and that is a good thing.

That's why we're here. Glad to help!
