Should be better on gas mileage too...I think that is a concern nowadays...

Coincidentally, I bought a new-to-me Mazda this week too (on Wednesday). Gas mileage was indeed a consideration, though the seating is less practical than Mitch's choice.

Actually, the Caddy got 18 in city and 26 on the hiway. I'm hoping for similar results.

The wife has recently become an "antique dealer".
Basically, that means she goes to local garage sales, buys a bunch of crap and then re-sells it at a ridiculously marked up price to tourists.

The caddy's trunk could hold 3 generations of paisns. So we "needed" something a little more reasonable than a Mazda3 or 6

I looked hard at Kevin's car he had for sale. But the cost of getting it here would've added a grand to the price tag.
Logistically, it just couldn't work.

We looked at Kias. Neighbor has one and loves it. But geez, they look and feel cheap. A new CX-7 was 2 grand more than a new Sorento. And it appears to be twice the car.
The only other vehicle we considered was the Ford Edge. But at $33K, it was just too much.

I actually got 28.5 mpg out of the 2.3 turbo in the MS6 (I have a 6 speed, but it's also AWD) last weekend. That's the best mileage I've ever seen. I usually get 22 and my previous high was just under 26 mpg. That's basically the same engine I have in the 6 and I think you'll like it. It's lazy below 2,200 rpm and it runs out of steam at 5,800 rpm (ignore the 6,700 rpm redline, all it makes up there is noise). But, it's flexible and makes good torque.



Yea, and the MS6 doesn't have a rear seat that lays down. That was probably a deal breaker for you anyway, sounds like you need the space and for a mid sized car, it's more limited than you'd expect.

Well, at least it's not a mini van ~ and it has those new "damn fangled" taillights too

Anyone see any long-term affects, other than performance, of using mid-grade (89 octane)?

Uh, yea. A few secrets about that engine.

It makes 15.8 psi of boost (which is a "ton" of boost for a stock vehicle). That is NOT a typo. And, it's direct fuel injected (like a diesel) and uses 1882 psi of fuel pressure. At 15.8 psi, you WILL want to run premium in it. It's only $2.00 extra per tank to run premium, spend the money. As I remember, the one time I had to run something else in mine (station was out of premium), the mileage actually dropped a bit. It was once, and long ago, but I believe that's what I remember.

My wife has had one for over a year(Black Cherry). I get around 21 while driving it. She gets 19 (lead foot). We use 87 most of the time with the occasional 89 tank. So far I've seen no difference but I haven't looked inside the engine.

The wife and me get into the Suburban this moring. She looks up at the Mazda just like yours, same color, parking in front of us and sais " That will be my next car!"

How is it that she is on her 4th car in the last 7 years, and I am putting around in a '98 Regal (which incidently I bought for my inlaws, on their extended say with us). The last car I bought for myself was the TransAm, 9 years ago, it has been around longer than my wife has.
I will not buy her another car.....
