Saw this on the corvete forums...
See they're looking for drivers for Season 3..you need to..
..not be a pro...
..have a 2 man crew..
..pay your way to stay in L.A. for the 4 week shoot..
Wish they'd repeat season 1 and 2...never seen either in total..
Set Up Season 3Wish I could do it but too many reasons why I can't.

What a deal ...
All the actors cover their own expenses, required to bring their own maintenance crews, get yelled at and made a fool of on TV, and the Production company pockets some serious change.

And at least two folks have pro rides after having been on that show... One of the runner up guys from the 1st season and the winner of this season.
Though admittedly I don't know if they've kept those rides.

They'd certainly make me "go home" after 1 race. It's a lucky lap when I DON'T put 2 wheels off at some point of the track!
And, the pay-your-own-way thing really sucks. If I had enough money to be able to afford a airfare, hotel room, food and transportation to/from the event for an entire month, I could start my own race team!
I had to stop watching Season 2 after about 6 episodes. "You're going home . . . you're going home . . . tell him he's going home." Then making everyone bunch back up every 2 laps, but getting upset when people put any distance on each other.
You're right, Julie - I'd have to kill him.

If you missed season 2 you can buy it on DVD for $22 ...
per episode!

On another board, a guy tried out for season 1 and left after a day or two because he realized they were basically just looking for unpaid actors to be in front of the camera for 4-6 weeks. Sure it's a good payoff if you win, but as we all saw, it's basically just a crap shoot that even a well-paid NBA referee couldn't fix.

What kind of irked me in season 2 was that the title of the show is "set-up", the crews are supposed to set-up the cars, but when one team figured out how to dial out some brake bias they wanted to DQ them.
Anyway the show is set-up to be good TV, not good racing. I'll still watch.... curiosity always gets the best of me...

Maybe it's not the cars being "set-up" ...

The things that annoyed me were that all the cars were all the same color and make, so you hadn't a clue who was where, and the use of the 'latest camera skilz' of keeping the camera moving all the time, even when looking at something on the car or interviewing someone. I get motion sick when they do that, and refuse to watch.
But yeah, anyone who can afford to put themselves and crew up for a month to race somewhere already is a pro team.

Dude, Junior did it last year. He's a hell of a guy but "pro team" isn't the first thing I think of when I think of him.
I'd like to punch Scott in the face most of the time when I watch the show too, but there is some real talent there, from what I've seen its actually amateur talent, and in the end the guy that lucks out typically has also been one of the fast folks the entire show. Oh, and at least two of those folks turned their time on that show into some level of pro ride.
That's a hell of a lot better TV than most of what's on.

Junior and Courtney (his crew chief) stayed with some friends out in California (read: free room and board).
From what I could gather from Mike, that guy Dannon (the one who wanted to fight Kevin Dietz) was about the only one on the show who could really afford for he and his crew chief to take time off and lounge around for 4-6 weeks.

I kind of like "Pass Time". Talk about bull shi# artists. "Watcha got in your Chevelle?".. "a 327 small block".."Stock?"..."Pretty much"...."ever race it?"..."once in a while".... Then he does a Pro Stock style burn out, and runs in the 10's. I can never guess correctly except for the combined time, and I chalk that up to arithmetic error.
