Full Version: New ESP (autocross) Camaro - Setup Questions

Hello,
A friend just purchased Bob Anderson's ESP camaro. It's a 1994 Z28. It has the typical "Strano" setup except it doesn't have the 35mm front bar (yet) and has Koni double adjustable shocks.

Since we are pulling the front K member, the car will need to go on an alignment rack. When I ran F stock I just maxed camber and put 1/16 of toe out. With the coil overs we will be able to do a cross corner weight and set ride height. I have a few questions:

1. What do you guys get for front camber?
2. What do you set ride height at and how do you measure it?
3. How much toe out? Any?
4. What should we run for tire pressure? The tires will be old Kuhmo V710's (for now)

Without offset bushings (available from Sam, if he has any left) you'll probably struggle to get more than about -1 degree of camber (depending on how low the car is). I ran my car about 25.5" to the top of the fender opening, but others are a touch higher than that (and it might be a good choice).

My castor was -5.2.

I ran between 1/16" and 1/32" of toe out.

* Disclaimer: I wasn't an ESP car, but I had an ESP setup (mostly) and ran basically a strano setup with SFC's and big brakes (and eventually Global West upper control arms, but my alignment changed a bunch when I added those).

If I recall correctly, 25.5 is really low for Konis, especially newer Konis. I think I'm at around 26.25", and 26.5" wouldn't be unreasonable. Youshould be able to get at least -1.5 camber or so.

Personally, I liked toe out with Nittos, but for any other tire I like zero toe. Toe out is common for autocross, I just don't like it for some reason - YMMV.

Bob's car was pretty damn good. Basic but good.
at least -1.5 camber maybe more at 25-3/4.
1/8-3/16 toe out. But this is all a preference thing.
32 25 psi when I had a similar car/tires.
