Just heard it on TV news.

A great racing gentleman ...

I saw where he was out at the track with one of his cars (GT1 Corvette I think) just recently for some "final laps". They said they figured he had a little while left. Guess it wasn't as long as they thought. He was a class act and a true gentleman.

Godspeed Paul, you will be missed.

That is sad.......at least he got his "Victory Lap".......thoughts to the family.

I also have him on tape when he had a Chevy Indycar team racing at Laguna Seca.

I met him back in the late 80's when I was just a pup and he was running with Sharp in Trans Am. He had a Z car then.....I have pictures of it at Sears Point. Funny you see his Trans Am car sitting next to an enclosed trailer that is smaller than mine now I think.....

I remember meeting him with my mom and a bunch of younger girls at the time....my dad and I went up and BS'd with him for about 15 minutes....the girls and my mom were all SILENT! Afterwards my dad and I were joking how silly he looked in shorts....knobby knees and white skin.....the girls were pissed at us for saying so and gushed "THAT was PAUL NEWMAN!" We said we knew....and asked why they never said anything to him.....they all got shy and said they were to embarrassed to to talk to him.... They were SO MAD that we DARED to speak to him and they couldn't work up the courage......good times!

I saw him years ago at Summit Point when Jim Fitzgerald was his partner. We were watching from the straight, and camped nearby. Between race group practices this Maxima comes slowly down the straight and stops. Two guys get out and start to paint white braking marks on the track. It was Newman and Fitzgerald. We got their attention, and offered them a beer, which they declined and showed us the Diet Cokes they were drinking. Later on Fitgerald drives up the access to where we were, and wanted to know if we minded him setting up a radar gun on the hood of my truck in order to check terminal speed on the straight. One of the guys in our group was a cop and he helped him with lining it up. He hung around until PLN's group finished running. He was a great person and gave all the profits from "Newman's Own" products to charity. No one I see in Hollywood today could ever fill his shoes. I knew Fitzgerald had passed away years ago, but couldn't remember when. I looked it up and it was November of 1987. Doesn't seem that long ago.

Ditto for me on. Godspeed Paul, you will be missed. We lost a true Hero Last friday. Thank you for so much paul Newman. Rest Well, Mr Newman, Rest Well.

A great actor, an amazing driver, and a multi million dollar a year philanthropist. Definitely one of my all time heros.

Between Phil Hill and Paul Newman we have definitely lost two true American Heroes. RIP both.
