I only live an hour from Daytona but it is very rare that a group will actually rent it because it is so expensive. The PBOC rented it out and I'm Solo qualified with them so I was good to go. They didn't allow any novice drivers. I have always wanted to drive Daytone and it didn't disappoint. The high banking is a hoot and I have a whole new respect for the NASCAR boys that can go 3 wide at the speeds they are running.

It rained most of the day on Sunday and during my first session I went out in the dry but ran into a torential down pour coming down the back straight. I'm running V710's so no tread and heavy rain isn't good. I took NASCAR 3&4 at a greatly reduced speed on my way to pit in and discovered that all of the rain running off the roof goes directly into the drivers door panel in that situation. blink.gif

Here is a few laps from my second session on Saturday.

Very cool. I got to do some touring laps of the endurance course last year during the Rolex 24 weekend. It is a very cool track and i hope to get some laps in at speed someday.

Nice video....thanks for sharing smile.gif

Looks like your car handles the tight turns really well....you mentioned the V710s but what's your suspension setup? Looks really flat and tight...
Also looks like you have the track figured out pretty well for your first event there....nice driving cool.gif

My setup is pretty much outlined in my signature below. I have Strano springs, Koni single adjustables up front, Bilstein heavy duties for a third gen in the rear, Suspension Techniques 35mm solid front bar, Strano 22mm hollow rear bar, Unbalanced Engineering panhard bar, Torsen T2R diff, 315/35-17 V710's all around and Corvette C6 brakes up front with Blaine Fab ducts. Nothing very trick but I really enjoy the setup and obviously have utilized this site and its vendors.

Thanks for the compliment on my driving but I must confess that Daytona really isn't that technical so I picked it up pretty quickly. I would have liked to have an experienced person ride with me to give me some pointers since that was the line that felt good to me but I'm not sure if it was the fastest way around.

Did you get a chance to look down and see how fast you were going before you had to start climbing on the binders for turn 1? Looks like you were moving along rather nicely at that point, that corvette certainly wasn't going to make any ground on ya smile.gif

Before the left hand kink on the front straight I was doing right at 140 mph so nothing huge but faster than I had ever seen on a track before. My motor is bone stock so it just doesn't pull that hard once I'm in 5th gear.

How often do they get use of the facility and do they let outsiders into any of the sessions? I would make the drive down for a chance to lap the same circuit as so many of my heros.

This was with the Porsche, BMW, Owners Club, and they are only the third club I've ever heard of to rent Daytona. They do allow people that have never run with them before but they require that you have track experience. There was a student group but no one was even close to being a novice. This was their first event there and they are trying to secure a date for next year but announced in the driver's meeting that they hadn't signed a contract yet. Keep an eye on their website. http://www.pbocflorida.com/mainmenu.html

I will keep an eye on it. Please let us know if you hear anything.

I've been asked to co-drive again in the 09 One Lap of America. Lucky us daytona is on the schedule. Now its up to the owner on who/where we are driving..... I can out-drive him by a considerable margin so I hope to become the lead driver.
Guys are already talking about what speeds some of our cars might reach at this track gr_eek2.gif gr_eek2.gif

CAMERA Hell ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I had one this yr running when I went to make a pass on a GT3 porsche at VIR... That almost didnt go very well when he slammed the door on me and I almost punted him in the RIGHT rear wheel. I did have a nice talk after we got off the track tantrum2.gif Somebody saying in the same sentance that I thought you made the pass and then saying I really did slam the door on you. DID not sit very well with me. Wadding up 150k worth of cars is not something I looked forward too!!!!
But owner was gleaming running this car down in 1.5 laps being able to outbreak and out handle, just didnt have the straight line speed
I still havent seen the vid.

Keep up the video I need all I can get..

I've heard that PBOC will try to rent Daytona again in 2009. It is not on their schedule yet, but their intent is to rent Daytona in 2009.

How much is the rent? How much do you pay for contribution? Just curious to compare with our prices here.

Thanks.

I heard the rent was $35,000 per day but my entry fee for Saturday and Sunday was $575 and included a garage. Next year garages are going to be extra since so many people bitched about garage assignments and over crowding. rolleyes.gif

¡Wow! and we complain because the Hermanos Rodriguez road race track close to downtown Mexico City, an ex-F1 circuit (2.8 miles/lap), what is used for the Mexican event of the Nascar american series cost us 10 000 USD. The rest of the near by smaller race tracks are on the 7 000 USD range. There is even a racetrack for 1 200 USD.

We pay from 500 (HR), 120 (nearby) and 40 for the cheapest.

Thanks, very interesting.

By the way, your driving looks very methodical, you can stay with the white Porsche in the turns easily. Congratulations
