Well, my contract here in California has come to an end. I been looking for a new job for quite some time, and finally got hired for one, just in time. So the new job is in Richmond, VA. I do not know much about the area, other than it looked pretty when I flew there for an interview.
Is there anyone on here from around there?

I'm about 10 miles south of Richmond in Chester. Where are you working, and what part of the city will you be living in?

They are putting me up in a corporate appartmant for 3 months, till I find a place of my own. It is at the I64 and I295 intersection, near the north west part of the city. I'll be working by the I295 / I95 intersection. The last 1 year I have been driving 80 miles round trip to and from work (3 to 4 hours) every day. So now everything seems close.

You'll be near the airport, and working a little south of Ashland. Your commute should be a breeze, especially this time of year. I would think less than 20 minutes. In the summer, the east bound lanes on 64 occasionally back up onto 295 south as people head to VA Beach.

Good luck Scott! My Dad had a commute like yours almost his whole career and I always wondered why he was in such a bad mood while I was growing up!

Here's to a shorter commute! There's a lot of cool NASA guys over there, you'll like it!

Welcome to the commonwealth! I'm in Va Beach, about an hour and half away. Your central to a lot of Racing, VIR, Summit Point are the two biggest road courses, about 2-3 hours from you. There is some great AutoX venues too, Richmond has some good NASA action and there is Virginia Motorsports Club (contact RPO-79) The DC area clubs have a great venue at FedX field, and here down at the beach we have the best concrete site around on one of the Navy Bases. Yeah if you are in to autocrossing, you'll like the general area. Big events with big courses at FedEx field. I think VMP might have events, too, but it's been years since I've gone down for any. Luckily you will be far enough from DC to keep your sanity, but close enough to come up for a visit to check out the monuments and museums.

... and of course, the big reason,
V.I.R..
NASA-MA has it's '09 schedule up already and there are 4 events on the full course and 4 at Summit Main next season. Then there is the SE region with Road Atlanta and others.
As far as automotive stuff to do, there's plenty to offer here.
Welcome

The car and the rest of our stuff will be sitting in storage till we find a pernament place there. Till then, till March, my new job is hooking us up with the appartment and a relocation/moving company package.

Man, that was a looooooooog drive. I am exausted! I left Friday at 10AM, did 1000mi, slept in New Mexico. Drove another 1000mi on Saturday, slept in Arkansas. Had about 600 miles left for Sunday. I figured I will get to Richmond before sundown. Boy I was wrong!!!! Thanks to Holiday traffic I got to the appartmant after midnight. That was the hardest part, being so close but not getting anywhere.
