Wow ...

I visit Tech regularly, but only read/post in the Texas sections and occasionally in the Suspension and Road Racing sections. I guess as this platform becomes more "obsolete" with time, this kind of thing is to be expected.

Been there since day one 8 years ago. It was a great place to go after leaving the ls1.com BS. Then it grew and grew and I slowly visited less and less. Great resource for info but just too big and business like. Thats why I only visit here, my local club forum, and the nasa forums now.

I never posted there much either... first I didn't have a LS1, but second it sort of had that CC.com feel about it.
codename Bil Doe
looks like it went the way of CF. Money talks. Still good for selling parts, though!

So, does that mean I shouldn't add google ads? smile.gif

I'm not sure how you figure that. I couldn't think of a board more different. It's the most sponsor/advertiser/money driven site I've seen. Simply posting a link to a non-sponsor will get it deleted and you'll be publicly threatened. Threads, posts, deleted/edited rearranged, people banned for the sole purpose of making the sponsors look good and eliminating any reports of poor results. Moderators who actually are some of those sponsors.... Any sort of "tech" posted there must make it through all those filters first....

No, it's the antithesis of CC.com.

My thoughts exactly. CC.com puts tech above all else, while LS1Tech puts making money above all else. There is some good info over there, but so much crap to go with it.

Too bad I didn't think to start it; they are making a fortune.
trackbird
Yea, I was thinking that too. CC.com is a truly tech driven place. LS1tech.com is a truly money driven place. CC.com will ban you for being a moron. LS1tech will ban you for bringing tech that involves another sponsor, or having a bad experience with one of their sponsors.

Yea, I could live with making a fortune. But I can't live with selling out this site. So, I'll stick to good tech and being poor... smile.gif That's why I bought this place, I wanted to keep it from becoming another one of those casualties of the checkbook. Not that I think we were in much danger, but 4+ years ago I couldn't predict the growth rate here.

I think that was James' point ... every visit runs the risk of getting banned for some remote and/or arbitrary reason.

Too much drama ...

Exactly.... or at least ridiculed. Tons of self appointed geniuses.

It all went down hill 2 years ago when tech sold. So far 35+ staff members have quit and I myself will most likely leave tomorrow. There is a lot more going on than meets the eye. Overall its just a shitty situation.
Major_Lee_Slow
I lost interest in that board years ago. When SLP introduced their "tuned length" headers on the board I asked about all the additional pumping losses due to the crazy number of bends in one of the primaries. Within 1 hour my post was deleted.

Thread must've gotten deleted.

I find LS1tech good for two things - a way to sell unwanted parts and a good laugh.
Eskimo
They have a sponsor that sells caliper covers.. need i say more?

Well, I cant see the info you linked to Mitch, it tells me I have insufficient access. The forums seem to be up and running fine...so what's going on?

In a nutshell (based on what I can gather, and I'm subject to be wrong). PSJ and 9ball sold the site two years ago. They signed a non compete clause for 2 years. 2 years is up. Now it's rumored that they started a new site and used a copy of a user list (member list?) from one of the sub forums from the Tech database. This is just what I've gathered. But it sounds like internet brands bought the site to turn it into an even larger cash cow than it already was and the membership is upset about the lack of tech (posts getting deleted about non sponsors, people getting banned, etc) and the pop up ads, and google ads, and such. Then IB is pretty mad about the database thing and I'm going to assume (if it's true), that lawyers will be involved ASAP.

Again, this is all based on heresay and conjecture (and therefore qualifies as a rumor), but that looks like the basic issue.

And I'll add words from Tony's post which has magically disappeared as well ...

While there was never a "no compete" clause, there was a clause that said the existing LS1Tech admin would maintain status quo for 2 years post sale. That period ended a few days/weeks ago.

Before LS1Tech was purchased, they had populated a user database for another site that didn't take off and languished out there. Internet Brands, the new owners of LS1Tech, had made a concious decision NOT to purchase that site.

When the old LS1Tech owners reopened the languishing site (PlanetLSx.com), IB accused the old Tech admin of "stealing" the database from LS1Tech post sale and has filed a lawsuit.

What a mess ...

A lot of stuff has been cleaned up to try and help settle the dust and avoid a lawsuit. What Mitch said is pretty much accurate. The user database is from seatstaysup.com, the site that IB did not want to buy.

EDIT: including myself, its now 41 mods that have quit.

A couple of folks who work at the same place I do, including someone who reports to me, previously worked at IB. Neither of them have much to say about IB which one can file under the "If you haven't got anything nice to say don't say anything at all" folder.

From what I gather its an "Interesting" place to work...

I was wondering how that PlanetLSX site was able to have 100k+ members, but it's only been around for a couple months.
