The hood is in good condition. The only damage is the rear corners, but I think they can be fixed pretty easy with a fiberglass repair kit from most parts store. Appears to be straight / flat. Nothing is coming apart underneath.

Primered and ready for paint.

I’m selling it to get a pin-on, and I might actually get some paint too.

$200

To bring this one back from the relative dead, did the 4-cylinder firebirds also have fiberglass hoods?

I might be wrong, but I can't remember a Firebird equivalent. I thought it was only a Camaro thing, but someone may correct me. I used to have an '89 Formula and I thought I looked into a factory fiberglass hood and didn't find them to exist...but it's been years and I could be a bit fuzzy on my memory now.

I've never seen or heard of the Firebird version. That’s yet another reason why this hood is so rare. Someone should buy this thing right away before I change my mind. Maybe I'll just hang this on the wall in my basement and wait for the value to go up. wink.gif

Searching in the thirdgen.org forums, there were some really, really rare aluminum hoods for '82 F Birds and at least one of the '92 Firehawks had one.

Scan of '82-'83 part # and description
Firehawk info

Couldn't find anything to confirm a factory fiberglass or composite hood for any F Birds.

P.S. My car already has an OEM fiberglass hood. smile.gif

Some "Knight Rider" Firebirds had the aluminum power bugle hood. I haven't seen one but they go for major bucks to Knight Riders. Only light weight stuff was the aluminum impact bumper which I have 3 for sale. smile.gif

Heh, it was just pointed out on sccaforums that the 4-cylinder camaros and firebirds are now specifically classed in FSP. Was this fiberglass hood available on anything other than the 4 cylinder camaro? If not, this hood is not ESP legal.

I'm pretty sure that this hood was on the Z28's only. Not sure if it was available on the 4 bangers or not.

Z28 only as originally it was designed with functional flappers for use with the crossfire injection cars I believe.

actually there were two non-steel hoods...both for Z28's only. My first 82Z had a plastic composite hood. (was an LG4/SuperT10 carbed car). My second 82Z was a crapfire auto with the fiberglass hood and functional vents. I also had an 83Z with the L69/T5 and the fiberglass hood with functional scoops. I don't think that the plastic hood was all that common...I tried to find a replacement at one point in time and couldn't. I had 2-3 extra fiberglass ones...and sold them for $25 each in 2003!

Someone else a couple weeks ago asked me if I had the 'plastic hood'. I assumed he meant FG, but I guess this confrims that there was also a plastic version.

The rear most corners of this hood have a little damage it looks like I can see the FG strands, so I'm pretty sure this is FG. But my vents are bolted solid ie I don't see how they could have been movable at one point in time.

Its "sheet molded compound", and yes it 'de-laminates'
