Anyone else frying a turkey? We are trying the deep fried method for the first time. If I never post again, I died in an oil-induced house fire. rolleyes.gif

I'm frying the turkey this year too, also for the first time! I already took the dark glass out of my welding helmet so there is just the clear glass left. The turkey has been thawing since Tuesday night. I measured for the right oil level which turned out to be 2" OVER the max line drawn on the pot... but it isn't an issue since I don't have enough oil to reach the recommended max! It should cook good enough anyway... according to one of my friends.

Hopefully the oil expands a little when hot?

I also had to go above the max line, and the very top of the turkey isn't completely submerged.

Be careful guys. Fry those things outside for safety. Fire extinguishers are your friend.

Don't do it on a wood deck either! I've never fried one but I used to work with a guy who burnt his deck down.

Mine went perfectly! There was a little splatter at first, then the oil didn't really want to warm up after the turkey was in... then it shot up quickly then seemed to be stuck at 355 no matter how low I turned the gas. I think the tank was getting low, so it started burning hotter? The turkey turned out great even with the one part sticking out of the oil, it didn't get brown but it was still done. It was a 14lb. bird and I kept it going for 50 minutes, next time I'll only do it for 40 to 45 since the wings were just a hair too crispy.

HAPPY TURKEY DAY EVERYONE!!

We had a 18 pound turkey, a 21 pound turkey and nice big hunk of ham. Food was everywhere and it was all amazing as always!
