Phil
hey guys/gals

im new here, been lurking for a while and finally joined, wanted to introduce myself

My names Phil, and i have usually hang around on TGO, so i know a handful of you guys form there. Love my 3rd gens.

So, i have an 86 trans am, its pretty much a protouring car at this point, probably going to stay that way and eventually begin my racecar build on my recently acquired 92 firebird.

86

92, 3.1 auto, slooooooooow

the 92 will be the racecar in the future, im just starting my plans for it and still have a lot of things to figure out with the direction i want to take it. Most of these plans require piles money, and thats a little tight right now since im looking to buy a house soon. So far i've only dealt with the issue of the horrible steel wheels that came with it, picked up a set of black crosslaces which will go on this spring once refinish them a bit.

so thats the basics, hopefully i can learn a lot from you guys

I'm quite sure it is/was, they usually had black wheels (the ones I remember) or Formula wheels (machined aluminum).

yes its the original color/paint Jamaica Yellow, a pretty rare color for the year

I couldn't come up with the name. I worked with a guy at Jegs who had one that color. It was a Formula (as I remember).

Welcome Dude,

probably not, not totally sure exactly what im building it for yet, have to see what i can do to the car before finalizing anything.

Im from the central NJ area, and unfortunately there is not a lot of autox events really close, closest that i know of is the scca road course at englishtown, then some autox in NY. Again, i need to look into this more, though i don't really know where to start, maybe you guys can help dry.gif .

what i want to do to the car involves little of the factory setup, so im sure that places out of most classes.

ahh, tgo has its purposes. And its funny to read all the fighting

Phil, try www.autoX4u.com

Personally I don't like the road course at Englishtown, it is a love it or hate it deal. Another point is that all the roadcourse dates bring out the new guys with their rice who like to curse at the tech workers! The parking lot side is a traditional autocross lot which I prefer and they put on a good event.

That's the problem though, there seems to be so many fights now days. Most of the threads with some good tech turn into a pissing match between a couple people and then the whole thing gets locked. Lately I've only been using the site for the classifieds section.

Either way, I'm eager to see what you do with the new car.

Yah TGO is getting pretty stupid IMO. The moderators aren't helping either. some of you saw what happened to my IRS thread...

Welcome Phil, do lots of searching and you'll find more info than you can shake a stick at. I would say nearly everyone here but me actually knows what they are doing and can provide good info. There are some great build threads by guys like StanIROCZ, Blainefab, rmackintosh, trackbird, and many others I'm forgetting.

awww, i have to search here too....

seriously, i have done quite a bit of poking around here and found a lot of good info. The good/stupid ratio here seems a lot more favorable than other sites i frequent

Both of those cars look too nice to gut.

Rather than do a build I'd suggest looking for something that's already been converted to a track car. Lots of them around going for next to nothing these days. You never get your money back so let someone else take the hit. People lean on you and put dents in your race car so it's best to have something that's just a mule and not too pretty. Those are nice looking cars you have there - hate to them get banged up for nothing.
