Anyone know where I can pick up an air filter tray on the cheap? I don't know if this part changed at any point in the 4th gens or if there's even a difference between Camaros and Firebirds, I just need one that will fit a '99 TransAm. If it's not clear what I'm talking about... it's the large piece of plastic that the air filter goes into, and turns out, helps hold the radiator and fan assembly in place at the top.

For those that are interested... my car slipped off my jack today (was jacking on the k-member like always, must have just not had it far enough back). It came down fast and hard, and I'm happy that nobody was hurt and that there wasn't more damage done. I broke the bottom part of a fan shroud, but everything still seems to be in working order in that regard. When the jack hit the fan shroud, it pushed the entire radiator assembly up enough that it broke the the air filter tray all the way across. Now everything is still in its proper place, but I'm concerned about how much force is being generated on the lower portion of the supports as it seems that's what's holding it together now. The last thing I need is for the entire assembly to fail and have the cooling fans come crashing into the accessories/belt. To help with that, I'm just keeping it garaged... which sucks as tomorrow is our first autox event and it's been nice weather lately.

Anyway...

I'm hoping someone may have done a cold air induction set up and have this piece just laying around somewhere. smile.gif

I ended up having to buy one for about $30 from a ls1tech member when i converted from the raptor cold-air setup back to a lid. I haven't seen anyone without one.

The only one I have is an LT1 part, which doesn't hold the air filter, but does hold the radiator in place.

$30 isn't too bad... And I definitely still need to be able to hold an air filter, so I'll have to keep looking. I'm going to check LS1tech and the dealership in a few days, but wanted to try here first since it's easier to trust folks.

No kidding.. I drove 50 minutes to get one that was "in good shape", just to see it had a big crack in it, and the kid tried to act like the crack wasn't even there.

May want to try Trans Am Creations? I've had pretty good luck with them on both 3rd and 4th gen used parts.

IF VaraRam would ever come out with their 4th gen LS1 setup, I would sell you mine, but I would not want to hold my breath that long (it's taken them what, 13 years to even seriously consider developing one?!!!).
They have said it will be out by mid summer, but I've been hearing that for (at least) the last 6-7 years. laugh.gif

Wow, can't wait quite that long... I need to be up and running again in the next week or two. I've emailed the tacreations folks to see how much that (and a few other parts) would run me. I've also found that new ones at GMPartsDirect are $124 shipped. That's more than I want to pay, but if I can't find a used one pretty quick, then that's what I'll likely end up having to do.

In the mean time, VaraRam does have some interesting products. I'll have to see what kind of performance gains they're seeing once they come out and determine if it's worth adding to my long term "wish list." smile.gif

Can you post a link to the part you're looking for? I'm not sure what you need, but we have various parts laying around from various incarnations of our car that might, or might not, be what you need.

TACreations had what I needed and for a very reasonable price ($35). I got a couple of other small parts I needed as well, all for less than a new lower air box would have cost me. Thanks a ton, Jeff, for pointing them out. I'm going to have to keep them bookmarked for some other fixes when I have the spare cash. wink.gif

Jason - obviously I have this covered now, but in case you still wanted to know what I was talking about, here's an image: http://tacreationsusa.com/images/Engine/Ai...ners/9802ac.jpg

Anytime.

For those not in the know, TA Creations is a Florida parts recycler that specializes in F-bodies. They carry everything from small trim pieces to full long blocks with transmissions. I've placed about a dozen orders from them for both my 2001 Firebird and my wife's '92 RS without any problems.
