With stills of the broken diff after!!!! Seriously though, a very cool car.

What tires, shocks (dashed lines on the label or solid), how does the shifter feel, does the car have a numb feeling, rear suspension squeak, do all the radio knobs work?

Gotta love a car with the traction control button on the steering wheel!

Congrats. That is a beautiful car.

I've read how fragile these diffs are. It appears that hop and wind were addressed and fixed (to a degree) in 06. But, you are correct ... it can be a ticking bomb. The warranty service record showed two diff related fixes ... one was for a vent and the other for seals.

So, when I saw that, I figured the car hadn't been run very hard.

Also, the harness for the skip-a-shift was dirty with road grime. That indicated it hadn't been disabled.

It has 80% run flats

Haven't inspected the shocks or bushings yet. Its on my to-do list.

The shifter feels like crap. Its "floaty" if that makes sense. Like the shifter is attached to a rubber ball. I don't feel it moving, though, when I rev the motor.

Turn in is really crisp in comparison to say a GTO.

Defeating TC/ST at the touch of a button is VERY cool. And when that happens, the car is pretty damn quick. It surprised me.

No squeaks, but there is a slight rattle from the exhaust. All the radio and Nav knobs and button appear to work ... that is, they do something. Just haven't figured out what they all do.

I did discover the seat memory button and Driver #1 must've been vertically challenged.

Nice! I ran a V6 rental at one of our two day weekend autocrosses a couple years ago. Pretty decent for a floaty sedan. There's a guy with a -V that ran/runs in our local group, was always fun to watch 2thumbs.gif

Mitch, I hate you! dry.gif

Seriously, nice catch. <Homer Simpson>"Ummm, a Veeee!"</Homer Simpson>

We had one of our old hot shoes show up with one at an autocross a while back. On street tires, and an older model car, he said the car was surprisingly neutral-handling. He really liked it, but liked it more on his work commute.

SWEET.

I was at a GM drive show and they had the CTS-V and the Corvette set up to autocross. I beat my time in the Corvette with the CTS-V. Surprised the hell out of me! I did screw up the run in the Vette, but I was shocked at how good the CTS-V felt and how well it did.

I WANT one!

Have fun with it! 2thumbs.gif

Nice, congrats - will this be an AIX buildup or....

The next gen V's get an iron housing. Not sure if they will interchange or not but I can ask. We might have an extra laying around dry.gif

The seal issue was a major problem (recall) because the seal supplier changed materials without authorization. Not aware of vent issues.

Thanks Stan. Good info.

I asked the guy at the dealsership that if I brought it for warranty work and it had a full cage installed, would that be a reason for denial? cool2.gif

Hey, you can't be too safe on today's roads. I mean, three or four Toyotas pass you on the way to work. You never know......

Well damn ...

I've been hearing a slight, tinny rattle from the back. And on a hard right hander, I would hear and feel a clunk from the rear as well.

Rattle was easy enough. There is a rubber hose with a tiny, metal breather attached. It had just enough slack for the metal breather to tap against the exhaust. A zip-tie fixed that.

The clunk was a missing upper ball joint nut. ohmy.gif I don't know what the seat is supposed to feel like, but I didn't feel any burs or divots in the knuckle. Fortunately, the thread was the same size as lower A-Arm bolts on an F-Car. And once I put as much tight on it as I dared, I checked it against the other side and see similar thread reveal. Need to keep an eye on that.

When the car goes back to the dealer for the agreed upon work, I'll make them do a real check on that ball joint.

Don't get me started on dealer agreed upon work... when I was 'this close' to buying my V the dealer told me not to worry they would be able to clean everything... but required a refundable deposit first. Mostly dirty interior parts from kids, soda splatter, child seat imprint in the leather, maybe the sunroof was left cracked open.

Long story short... they replaced the headliner but didn't clean the dirty ass sunroof cover, A and B pillar trim... etc. The dealer copped a bit of an attitude and said he had another offer for the same price as is, so I told him to sell it to them.

So good luck with getting the dealer to follow up on work like that, I will never drive the car off the lot until that stuff is done.

Over a month later and I still don't have my deposit back!!!!!
mitchntx
I did get it in writing, but you are correct, they can be rather shady characters. And had it not been for my current work schedule, I probably would have left it for them to repair before I did take delivery.

Hopefully my experience plays out differently than yours.

Mitch,
First gen axles do not interchange with 2nd gen's. In otherwords, no iron housing available for your car. Sorry.
Metlegleo
A buddy of mine is asking for advice on an upgraded rotor for the cts-v...any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mark

QUOTE
A black Cadillac CTS-V, piloted by Howard LaFever, touches the gravel trap, but briefly. The car ends up upside-down on the other side of the catch fence and cement barrier. Reports are conflicting -- LaFever allegedly claims no brakes -- but the recipe is obvious: The CTS-V is approaching turn 12, a sharp left, at over 100 mph. It doesn't slow. The car turns, presumably the driver's effort to make the turn, and skips across the gravel trap before going airborne and flipping onto its roof. The damage looks terrifying, but LaFever walks away with just a cut on his finger.

We try catching up with LaFever in the pits, but he's missing. Some say he's been taken to the hospital despite being unharmed, others say he's out buying a new car to continue the week.

How much do the V's weigh? I mean damn.. 14" rotors and people want more?
mitchntx
First Gens (04-07) have an advertised weight of 3850
Second Gens(09+) have an advertised weight of 4250

I didn't understand why the rear rotors were about a 1/2" larger than the fronts till I realized how large the e-bake drum had to be in order to clear the rear CV joint.

Nice ride! Good for you Mitch.

I'd love to snap one up myself. I look forward to your evaluation after tracking it!
