Ouch.
When I worked at a Mobil station, I dropped an old POS Accord off the lift. My boss' insurance paid for the damage ($4k). Not long after, I hit a guy on a bicycle with a full size Ram Charger. Thank goodness the guy was okay, and he was actually drunk. So I was off the hook...

Can anyone post the pictures somewhere else so we all don't have to register just to see them?

Thanks shortbus.
Sucks to be him but somehow I doubt he'll get much out of it. The dealership will repair it and send him along his way.

This is the second time I've heard of this happening to a C5, the first time was a year or so ago and I think the car was brand new (dealership ended up giving him a new one if I recall correctly). What

Thanks for hosting those pics Shortbus.
I just don't get how someone didn't notice it wasn't on the lift right. I know when I'm jacking up my car & put the stands under it, I make sure that it's on the stands properly before doing any work. It's just carelessness in my opinion.

Looks like it may have fell front first, sorry to hear about that. I'm not sure if I would want the car back if it really fell from 6 feet, it looks like it fell maybe a couple feet, but I can't really tell from the pics. If it fell six feet I'm sure a lot of stuff is out of alignment and that dealer might "make things fit" since this is a loss to them. If you are going to have it repaired take it to another dealer at least or try your best to have it totalled. I would get your insurance adjuster to look at it and get them involved, I would think they would be more likly to say it's totalled since they are not paying out, but who knows. If they don't total it then your back to sqaure one and you have lost nothing, but if you have it repaired and it's not right then your really in trouble. You could also work out a deal with the dealership on a really good trade-in and a really good deal on something new.

It looked like they missed the jacking rails.

A friend of mine in FL had the dealer service his T1 Corvette. Some dumb a$$ mechanic was test driving it and lost control rolling it down a hill and left it on its roof. The dealership bought a him a better race car in return than the one he lost. Some times you win sometimes you loose.

Fortunately, it isn't mine. I just saw it on another board & felt compelled to share it for some reason.

I actually read through some of that mile long thread. It is only one side of the story so that is one thing to consider. If what is reported is true then I would press for another car and let them "fix" that one; I just would feel sorry for the guy who buys it.
My roommate bought a 02 Ford Focus a year and a half ago (his first brand new car) and after having it for 5 days he got the front end of his car taken off by a Dodge Ram. The accedent was my roommates fault and he took me to see the car. The front end of the car was sepperated from the rest of it and the insurance company didn't total it. The cost of the repair was about $600 less then what he paid for the car new a week earlier. I tried to tell him to have it totalled or take the cash, but don't repair it. Well he had it repaired and it has electrical problems; go figure. So if you Carfax a Ford Focus and it shows major accedent at 94 miles, don't buy it.

I got to witness the aftermath of a lift incident one day at a Mercedes dealership. I had stopped by to see a friend who was a mechanic there and he showed me a Mercedes that had two torn open holes one in each drivers side doors. This was a brand new car that one of the numbnuts mechanics was prepping for delivery. It was a twin post lift and this guy only set the pads on the passenger side and then proceeded to lift the car with his back to it. One of the other mechanics saw it when it was about four feet off the ground and got numbnuts attention. It was being supported by the doors on the drivers side and the lift points on the passenger side. Can you imagine having to explain to the customer why they couldn't deliver their new car.

When I dropped a car off the lift, my boss knew it would've happened sooner or later. The twin post lift was leaking hydraulic on 1 side, so when we released the air, it would hobble and shake. My luck, it hobbled and shook hard enough to drop the POS off the lift. We had to use our tow truck to free it. Needles to say, the lift was fixed afterwards.

Well, in my redneck town we have some dumb people. Some have just driven to far over to one side on the 4 posts and dropped one side. No real damage. One lowered a car onto a plastic 55gal drum (used for a trash can) which compressed and shot at another car's bumper and cracked the hell out of it. We have a porter that constantly does scratch-and-dings. He also ran a forklift into a lift, ran it into a door, ran it into a limited edition Jesse James toolbox (you have never seen a madder technician), and finally ran over a $1,200 piece of diagnostic equipment with a truck. Oh, he also ran into an oil transporter and crushed it. I should mention that I am the only porter without a major (edited)-up to my name. It's pathetic. I guess thats the caliber of person that a $6.50/hour paycheck draws. I'm quitting in 2 months.
