Full Version: Good deal on some trackday wheels....
Hm. Well I sometimes wonder about things that seem too good to be true. I would hate to buy wheels this cheap and have them be made poorly and break on track. Sometimes you get what you pay for. I bought my 17x11s from AFS and I think they were sort of recommended, paid about $800 I think. I can't point my finger at any posts right now, but I remember reading more than a few posts saying to stay away from the ebay stores, their goods are of unknown quality or mfr.
You're usually better off buying curbed stock wheels. I was picking up Z06 fronts for $400/set a few years ago and I've bought factory Camaro SS wheels for $150-300/set.
They're usually lighter and stronger then aftermarket stuff. When they're cheaper too, it's a no-brainer.

At one point we did a wheel GP here and sold about 80 of the OE wheels ZR1's...then they started doing funny stuff with pricing and shipping prices and we quit buying them. I know several people here are running them because I ordered them...lol. They were heavier than the AFS stuff as I remember, but I don't remember the weights.

Are the AFS wheels good quality, can they be trusted on the track?

+1 for corvetteforum. I've been raping them lately for all the 17x9.5 Z06 wheels I could get. Post a WTB message in the road racing forum. You'll get a better response than the classifieds.
I'm averaging $100-$125 per wheel. Make sure to ask for pics of the inside GM stampings to ensure OEM.

Definitely a good idea when shipping is involved.
I drove 80 miles round trip to buy an "OEM Corvette Z06 wheel" off Craigslist for $75. When I got there it was a chrome replica. I bought it for $20 anyway since the guy had no calls on it, but it was still a let down and not really worth the gas. It did make a full set of wheels for the 3 sawblades a guy in the neighborhood dropped off to get them out of his garage.
