Went to pick up my car today from speedware motorsports. They did a mount balance, alignment and corner weight on the car. I had never weighed the car before so I was real curious as to what the total weight of the car would be. With my weight in the drivers seat and 3/4 tank of fuel my hog came in at a LOFTY 3700lbs!!! blink.gif blink.gif

I was figureing it would be in the 3300-3400 but HOLY SCHNIKIES! 3700lbs! My car is a fricken road tank!

On the bright side the coner weighting came in at 50.1% biggrin.gif and front to rear is 51% and 49%. I am pretty damn happy with those numbers.

when I got the car on the freeway it tracked like a missile down the road. This is the first time I have had a custom alignment done. I cant believe I havent been doing this from day 1.

*6 days till go time

Yeah, that is a heavy ride. wink.gif I have never weighed my car, but I have removed a few dozen pounds.

Do you have an aftermarket stereo?

Have you done weight reducing to the car?
trackbird
Look on the bright side, you need to generate lots of lift to get that thing airborne at the SSC (Pony Express, etc).

LUXURIES!! WHAT LUXURIES!!

My car is a no interior, fiberglass race seat (no padding), no stereo having, burn your arms sheetmetal door panel, no cold AC kind of car! Even has a CF driveshaft.

This thing is STRIPPED. The only big chunk of weight I havent removed is the heater core. But there isnt any way to do that with my cage.

BUT 6 points of "1 3/4, .120 wall chrome moly does add up. Then the Moser "9 with 31 spline axles, the big LG radiator plus a few other things. I don't have any speakers in the car but the amp and head unit are still there. I am going to have a hard time parting with the tunes though.

Rest assured after this run, the car will be going on a SERIOUS diet. The biggest mess I want to get at is behind the dash. And that is a no go. But I figure all of the seem paste thats in thier has got to weigh something. I just have to figure out how to get it off then I can weld all the seems. I am going to try to get it down to under 3500 with me in it. But I don't think its going to be possible.

How much does that Moser weigh? Your f/r weight distribution is suspiciously good...I'm guessing that axle is playing a large part in that--and the overall weight.
ESPCamaro
I would first find another scale. 9" rears are not that heavy. More than a 10 bolt yes. But by less than 75lbs.

I just weighed my car this past weekend and it's at 3375. And I have full interior, almost full tank, power windows, locks, mirrors and drivers seat. This also included heavy as Kumho's and AFS wheels.

Find another scale.

Oh yeah. I had forgotten how your car looked. 3700 pounds gave me an image of a bank of subwoofers that kept your car 'ass heavy.'

I remember people saying 18lbs for the whole passenger airbag and the metal support, and another 9lbs for the heater core. Only another 127 pounds after that and you will meet you goal. wink.gif

I figure the axle and the cage are doing the trick for distribution.

"It's nose heavy...."

"well, just add some weight to the rear then"

"oh, ok, good idea"

Just kidding Nata....

WOW! My car is stripped with aluminum door panels and 8 point cage.....can't IMAGINE your weight though.....hmmmmm

Did you use SOLID tubing in the cage? tongue.gif

A bunch of comedians. A guy finds out he is a little thick in the hips and you guys go straight for the jugular. I am like the pudgy chick at the party that everyone makes fun of because I am a little bit "thick" but once everyone has a few beers, they wouldnt hesitate to take it for a ride tongue.gif

I am thinking I need to get a second opinion from a different scale just to make sure. It sounds a little to heavy to me. Even with the big cage. I am waiting for a call back from my buddy that runs an UNL. class 95 camaro. That thing has a cage that makes mine look chincy and he also uses AT diamond plate inside the car. Not to mention it has a 4 gallon dry sump tank in it. If I am heavier than him, I am definately getting it checked.
shortbus
can you add fiber doors and hatch? Those alone should drop the weight your looking to lose. Would cutting out the half of the dash you don't need help you get to the heater core?

That cage is cool.

The difference is, you're the "big" guy who runs marathons. They can laugh if they want, but they can't catch you. You'll get the last laugh on that one....

People "fear" what they cannot catch.

Maybe it's not so much "pony car" as "clydesdale".

You should be able to find a county certified scale that will give you an accurate weight.

Just found out that my buddy with the UNL class 95 camaro that CRUISES above 215mph weighs in at a PORTLY 4200lbs. He said he has close to 300lbs of cage in the car and hasnt done any real weight reduction. I know he still has carpet and his factory door panels but no air bags. I think he has also dumped the heater core though
trackbird
uh....one word.

OOF!

This is one of the funniest threads I've read in a while biggrin.gif
3700lbs sounds like an awful lot for a car with minimal interior. I'd certainly get a second opinion. I know I weighed my car one weekend (3290), changed the seat to a much lighter one, and weighed in the next weekend (different scales) at 3360. So, I might have had 11 more gallons of gas in the car...but I doubt it. I think scales can be off.
trackbird
True. Scales can be off. I think Boyce had a Yugo hiding under the rear hatch when it went across the scales.
