Howdy,

Where's everyone buying parts at discount these days? I'm thinking I'm needing two new front upper control arms for the c5 z06...

They both look like this now:

Whats wrong with the arms?
marka
Howdy,

The bushings have moved relative to the arm itself and apparently the only way to replace them (with stock bushings, which is required by class rules) is to replace the arm.

Those look good compared to some I have seen.

Thanks. A little more research ended up with me thinking the same thing, actually.

Still, I called Team Chevy and got a pair of uppers sent to me. I won't stick 'em on there now, but it appears I'll need them in the future.

Here are 0 mile bushings from the shop chassis:

I don't think yours are bad enough to replace yet. The lowers are more prone to moving - I'd pound them out till the LCA rubbed on the Kmember on my BSP C5. I gave the first set of arms I replaced to Griggs so they could tool up for some better bushings, dunno if they ever did that.

You learn something everyday and I have never owned or worked on a 4th gen but was under the impression the suspension was virtually identical to the 3rd gen but that looks like the factory have reverted back to unequal length double wishbone suspension and done away with the McPherson strut, is that right?

Those pics are Corvette, but what you say about 4th gen is true in the front - not the forged aluminum arms of the Vette, but a double wishbone none the less. The 4th gen is all different than the 3rd gen from the firewall forward, mostly the same rearward.

Aren't there some 'updated' C5 control arms available? I seem to remember a friend pounding his out and he got the 'updated' set. Don't know if it was upper or lower, though.

Dunno. There are T1 parts from GM that supposedly have stiffer rubber bushings, which I'd put on there if this was a street car vs. an SS autox car. AFAIK those parts were never called for via supercede or TSB.

Perhaps they were, or there's another set, or I'm thinking of lower control arms. I remember a friend with an early Z06 (IIRC, '02 or '03) who had bushing problems and had to replace control arms. He indicated he got the 'updated versions'. He was an annual pilgrim to Mecca, er, Topeka. He ran in SS.
