Wow, do you have a video of it running? That looks amazing!

I love how you can see the light bar of a police car through the smoke in that last picture.

Can't afford ONE of them to be honest. Actually bought my "road race" car as a DD initially since the turbo car was always down for so long (cause I can't afford to repair and upgrade it overnight). Then I got hooked on open tracking it. Now that car is also a money pit and slowly truning into a race car. Hope to have the drag car back on the strip by New Years......Then maybe sell it as a turn key 8 second car.

Made some progress today with the downpipes. Just dumping them out the side of the car for now. Once its running we'll worry about how the F to run a 3.5" DP over the K-member on the drivers side. Thanks again Matt. LOVE the work, and the fact that this is just a little project that my best friend is chipping away at in the little free time he has! Sorry for the low quality pictures, they were sent to me as text messages then uploaded from my SD card.

Looks like you're making progress! Question, did someone weld the pipe together using a mig welder and a series of tack welds? I see that the flange was put on with a tig, but the other weld looks like a series of tacks from a mig. That's likely to crack and/or leak. I would absolutely weld that in one continuous bead. Mig tends to start a weld a little cold and then come up to temp as you weld and build heat in that weld. Tacks never really fuse the metal consistently (because they start "cold" and then you stop before you really get the weld "going"). If those are done how I think they are, I'd run a bead over them (which will also remove the craters in the center of each spot weld...craters can lead to cracking). Of couse this is all assuming that I see what I think I see.
StanIROCZ
Looks to me like TIG on a thin wall stainless pipe. Its tuff to TIG thin stuff and the bead never looks as glossy pretty as when welding thicker stuff.
ninetres
It's all back purged tig. The welder is amazing. If anything looks funny there is likely a reason.....and the pics blow.
trackbird
That's cool. I wasn't sure about the bead on the right (the slightly blurry one..lol). I thought I saw a crater in the middle of a couple of those welds, but it's hard to see (which is why I asked). I'm anxious to see how it turns out!
ninetres
I was out there on Tuesday. All the welds look tits in person. It was just the lighting/focus/quality of that pic. I'll keep you guys up to date!
ninetres
Got both wastegates mounted! The idea was to have them symmetrically oppose each other.....but we should have known this was a pretty tough feat. None the less, my buddy Matt had it pulled off until the stupid v-band that the WG sits on just REFUSED to sit flush on the feed pipe. I haven't seen it in person but it looks DAMN close to me! Either way I think it looks BAD ASS, and will only look more narly one the WG dumps are plumbed back into the DPs!!!!

Steve91T
Just promise me you'll clean that windshield before you drive it smile.gif
ninetres
Poor car issue soooooooo dirty sad.gif been sitting for just over 2 years now! Always been indoors but still is dirty as hell!
ninetres
Got the WG dumps routed back into the DPs. They still need to be finish welded. Then its onto the cold piping!!!!:

Redbullet
Awesome build! What size a/r on the turbos?
ninetres
.81s.

I have some more pics but the last few times i tried to post them here it said there wrre too many for one post. Annoying, so i gave up.
trackbird
I think you have to post them 5 pics per post (if I remember correctly). Just do 5, then another post with 5, etc.
ninetres
Been making some good progress on the car. Hoping to finish it in the next month! Here is the intercooler tank all finished up.

CrashTestDummy
It looks to me like that tank is about 8" too high back there. I would think that with the weight of all that coolant back there, you'd want it as low as possible. Is there a bunch of piping/valving you need clearance for under that tank?

Needs to be higher than the ic under the dash.

I talked to a guy at Buttonwillow in early March 2012 that said he also had a twin turbo drag car. What is the track car. I'm the one with the 1994 Z28 white with the black top.

Does your class require a passenger seat??

Are you running in an NMCA LSx class?
Blainefab
Fuel lines right alongside the driveshaft gives me the willies - if that shaft comes apart it could tear up the filter or hose. Hot stuff nearby too...
Driver_10
Correct me if im wrong here, but are those aluminum exhaust pipes???

The west coast hot rod class L10.5 requires a passenger seat. That's what the car was built for.

True. Was just told it might also be against NHRA tech. I'll look at moving them. Should be too difficult.

The downpipe switch to aluminum just before the k member smile.gif

is it just me or the tight squeeze pipe is not fully welded (only tack welded) ?

Photographed when it was only tacked.
