I have a middle-aged neighbor I don't know very well who recently purchased a 1989 IROC-Z from one of his friends. He says it has a LT1 350 solid roller, and originally said it weighed 800lbs less than my 1998 model. He advised he has a hard time keeping it straight, and it only spins the tires in any gear. It appears to have a full factory interior but I didn't look under the hood. It does sound healthy when he rev's the motor though. When I told him there's no way the car came from the factory at 2600lbs, he ammended his claim that it's still 500lbs lighter because they weigh 28-2900lbs stock.

It also has Eagle GTII tires. My research indicates that the factory curb weight would be 3100lbs, but I don't know if other options would have altered that figure much less the LT1 motor which is installed. Assuming it's fairly stock except for the LT1 motor, what weight range do you think the car would be in?

According to thirdgen.org, an 87 IROC 350 has a base weight of 3,341 lbs + options - so your number is better than his....

found this on a third gen board:

1988 Iroc-Z Camaro (Orginally a 350TPI/700R4)

LS1 Swap with T-56 Trans
Aluminum DS
Stock Aussie 9bolt/brakes
1/3 tank of gas

Car weight was 3182 without me in it, damn thats light !!!
What are everybody elses coming in at ?

Looks like 3300 plus to me in stock form with an LT1

Mine weighs 3280 with a glass hood, lightweight battery, 315s and heavy 18 x 10.5" rims, no AC, no smog pump, no cruise control, no spare tire, and at the time I had most of the rear interior plastic out too. That's with a TPI motor and T5.

An LT1 & T56 would be heavier.

Sounds like a classic case of 'dumbass', and walk away when BS like that starts flowing.

yah why are thirdgen guys such idiots? rolleyes.gif This guy is clearly a fool and has no clue what he is talking about. He likes the sound of his own boasting so I'd just leave him to it. Trying to educate this guy will most likely not be worth the effot. Your best bet is to point him to thirdgen.org.

I'm with 1meanZ. I understand the possibility of the need to bamboozle the wife about the new toy. However, I am thinking that he doesn't know when to stop. This tale is so tall that I wouldn't even engage him. Just congratulate him on a genuine one-of-kind find and leave it. (Yep, definitely one of a kind, as described.) rolleyes.gif

He probably bought it at a Barrett-Jackson auction and is trying to justify (in his mind) the car's value. rolleyes.gif smile.gif

I think the last time I had mine on the scales with glass hood and full roll cage she went just over 1300kgs. It is a stripped out race car though.

This is nearly 2800#. While there's probably 150# of lead in it, it's otherwise stripped and gutted.
